And so the roundabout starts up again.
People who have picked a side will stick to it vehemently. Abuse will be hurled.
Debate is dead.
It`s now just about doubling down on your chosen position
Strawmen, ad homs, we`ve got it all here.
It's stty situation, perpetuated by both parties, with no immediate solution.

I can't see how anyone can pick a side in this. The history is long and murky. The actions from both sides are contemptible.
Supporting a "side" comes across a tad ignorant to the realities of the situation.
I was born in 1946. I've grown up with this. Supporting a "side" comes across a tad ignorant to the realities of the situation.
Before the war, there was a general consensus that Jews needed a homeland. Balfour generously bequeathed the Jews a 'homeland' but made it 'in Palestine'. It seems there was no suggestion in the Declaration of a Jewish state. The civil and religious rights of the occupants of Palestine were protected. That went well.
Post war, sympathy replaced the general agreement, and the logic of having a place where Jews could go for protection became irrefutable. The persecution of Jews in the mainland of Europe did not end when WWII ended. It continued. Many Jews who were removed by the Germans, and their sympathisers, returned to find other occupants in their homes who refused to leave. In many cases, they were attacked, and killed. See Savage Continent by Lowe. Well worth reading. It will open your eyes. We were snug in our safe island, but Europe was a mess of violence and thuggery.
The later occupation of Palestinian land via 'settlements', in reality an invasion, meant that there would be no settlement. I've heard it described as an act of war. There is no pristine 'side'. There is no answer.

This is why Israel needs to eliminate Hamas and completely secure the Gaza strip. It's the only way to end the violencePeople who have picked a side will stick to it vehemently. Abuse will be hurled.

The prospects of a functioning Palestinian state died years ago, leaving it's people as cattle for regional players to cause trouble i.e Iran
The only future I see for the region is to remove all ambiguity and unify the territory under Israeli governance.
You can't fence sit anymore.

Made my position clear a long time back in this very thread. It's actually the same as most decent people's aspirations for the Palestinian people.
A two state solution then. Both viable and secureEdited by JJJ. on Tuesday 7th May 12:54

Oh really....? a single state solution with all the population having equal rights?
No Israel adminsters the Gaza so the Palestinians can learn to do something more productive than wage war against Jews. They have demonstrated that they cannot manage themselves and so need to be controlled by sane grownups.fido said:

All the videos and destruction are out there in real time / live streamed for people to see..
Who is going to be the first to call Oxfam a mouthpiece for Hamas ?

I think Sally is wrong/mistaken. If Israel had really been " deliberately and systematically " targeting civilians there would be an awful lot more dead people in Gaza now than the 20 odd *thousand that is being calculated (*a net figure depending on how many of the dead to date you think were Hamas etc)All the videos and destruction are out there in real time / live streamed for people to see..

no one wants to dismantle israel, they want them to live alongside a palestinian state and stop being s and murdering thousands of people.
Actually there a couple of posters who have stated they wish to see Israel gone. One was quite happy to state his hatred of Israel.JJJ. said:
Tokenism of the highest order, pushed by an outlet that's deep in the "weaponizing antisemitism" Corbynite camp. There are Muslim and even Palestinian staunch supporters of Israel - Mosab Hassan Yousef is the son of a cofounder of Hamas, and worked as an informant for the Shin Bet.
But is this at all representative of the majority? No.
Posting his views as "A Palestinian view!" without adding some context would be intellectually dishonest at best.
