Seriously? You are not living in North Korea for fks sake. You can even be kept anonymous if you wish.

It’s attitudes like that that leads to “oh I saw some guys that looked suspicious” after you see the news that they have blown up the tube and people are dead.

Turning a blind eye out of some odd fear of the police makes us all less safe
I wouldn’t even mention seeing someone suspicious after the fact. Keep myself well out of it.

And anonymous? Anonymous to whom? And how?
The authorities will know whose phone reported it.

Yes this attitude makes us all less safe. The blame for that lies with the police and the authorities for treating the people making the reports as if they are somehow part of the problem.

Been there, done that, once bitten, etc

Coward.
I'm no lover of the authorities but you think just ignoring everything makes the world a better place?
No doubt you're "that guy" that walks past as some old woman is lying on the floor after having been knocked down and having her purse snatched.

Just wanted to add my 2p.

I would 100% recommend the BTP text number - I've used it on a number of occasions and they have been very responsive.

It was good enough to be able to get officers waiting for a pair of drug dealers discussing how they were concealing their wares to get into Glastonbury between Salisbury and Templecombe stations.

Also used it to alert on violent behaviour and anti-social stuff.

You can even submit pics/vid/audio if available via the same channel.

Your username appears accurate. Where was the emergency?

Keep grinding that axe...
I only need to because the police presented it to me in the first place.

I never wanted an axe, I never asked for an axe.
And no one's asked for you to crowbar it into every police related thread either, but there you go.

I’ve stepped in several times to help someone, and taken a couple of very damaging injuries because of it.

The last time I intervened when a man was screaming abuse at a woman he was with they both turned on me.

I’d think twice now. I have two little children who I love and am responsible for, I don’t want them to grow up without me.

I would call a potentially armed youth making threats to a member of the public, an emergency. At what point would you classify it as an emergency, when he threatens a member of the public, when he shows that he possibly has a weapon, when he pulls out a weapon, when he brandishes a weapon, when he stabs someone with a weapon, or as the person dies on the floor of the train?

As for the Guard/Inspector I woudn't expect them to act, however, if they had some way to usher the other passengers to another carriage and lock the miscreant in to the carriage alone then call ahead to the next station I would be happy.

A 999 call could have been made but it would take some time for law enforcement to be effective. The person that I went to find was the only person on the train to have some authority and have access to BTP emergency services.

There is also a public record of a train miscreant from the Made in Chelsea cast, he caused a problem for other passengers, he refused to stop, the guard was called, he refused to comply and was arrested at the next station. From memory he was taken to Peterborough PS..

I don’t and won’t due to the risk of the police embroiling you in the whole thing, or worse, deciding YOU have committed an offence and arresting you.

See nothing, hear nothing, do nothing.
That is what our authorities want, and so I am happy to oblige.
Must be embarrassing living your whole life trying to do what you imagine the authorities want you to do.

Yes. Why get involved? If the police turn up there’s a high chance the perpetrator will have me arrested for assault. Sorry, stuff that. I’m no good to my family sitting in a cell.

Dealt with for having a defective vehicle on a road if I recall.

Let's hope that if you ever need the assistance of anyone, ever then the people around you are more grown up than you are.

It had been vandalised an hour previously and the officer who attended reported me for a construction and use offence. I was the victim, but that didn’t matter.

That missed the point of the wider issue, which was that I was repeatedly “targeted” in revenge for a (successful) complaint I’d made against an officer.

This is exactly how my life will end, my wife knows that I’m one day never return from the shops, local takeaway because I refuse to ignore these stheads who think it’s their god given right to annoy and p*ss off others going about their daily business. Totally fed up with how law abiding people are expected to just ignore and report anything aimed at them. These people have no boundaries and as for the guy going to prison in 3 days probably a lie, tempted to reply enjoy being raped !

Of course you were, however you're missing the point again and again that you're not 'sticking it' to the cops by not wanting to assist.

You're just sticking it to any victims of crime that might have benefited form your evidence and giving any scumbags an advantage to getting off. So well done!

I think if it were me on the train and he told me he was going to jail...I'd probably ask which one, to which I'd reply with something like...oh that's a prison for low level criminals, you'll be fine in there mate haha, yeah. That's a soft prison lol. I was in Belmarsh last year...yeah...bit tougher in there but not too bad. Anyway, good luck mate
But then I do love winding up stupid people. They're an easy target.

I don't think this particular individual was capable of a straight answer. Troubled teenager. It's not normal, rational behaviour for a kid to give it large to an adult, especially a large ex-rugby player adult.
