It appears that Harry Benjamin will first replace Croft at Imola in May. It's a name I'm not familiar with. Apparently he commentates on F1 for Radio 5 amongst other things.

Has anyone ever listened to Benjamin? I'm wondering what his 'style' is.
I've not listened to his commentary but he's pretty inoffensive on the Motormouth podcast

what is so wrong with "Switcharoo" exactly?
It's the way he triumphantly announces it, as though taking a late apex in order to get on full gas earlier than your attacker is a rare enough event to deserve its own special moniker courtesy of Crofty™

The bloke is a muff.
For me, he doesn't use the word correctly anyway:it means an unexpected surprise or trick. Selling a dummy would make sense, but he uses it for a well planned overtake, its very rarely unexpected or a trick - it isn't a "thing" in isolation, or a specific technique. The man's a moron.
Fortunately I haven't heard him lately, but you are correct - his use of switcheroo is wrong.

Swicheroo also always reminds of one of the most entertaining musicians to ever grace the stage: Slim Gaillard. He invented his own language "Vout-o-Reenee" and my email name was inspired by him. Originally it was going to be "Fillerooneywithsomehot sauceonthesideandthatshouldjustaboutfixit@hotmail.com, but I realised that might be a tad laborious.

He had a fascinating life, culminating in being able to captivate an audience better than Croft ever could..., with just his little finger:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slim_Gaillard

To add some culture to this thread. In action. Sublime IMHO:
Thank you for the added culture.
Never even heard of him before.
But some great work by him.
So much music. So little time .
You are welcome. Immense talent!!

Yesterday we had ‘he’s gone full Tokyo drift in Miami’
Sat there confused also. It might have even been ‘he’s gone full Miami Tokyo drift’…

Blokes a clown.
Quite possibly, I wasn't going to re-wind it to find out laugh

I used to enjoy his commentary on Radio 5 Live with Davidson back in the day, but I really have found it difficult as of late.
The 'Lando Trumps Miami' was crass and took the moment away for me. I'd rather he stay away from terrible political dad jokes. That was Lando's moment as his first win and he poisoned the moment to make a stupid comment to be funny when he didn't need to be.
I'm not sure if it's the length of the season now, but I think it would be good to have a mix of commentators.

We'll soon find out how he compares to Croft. I really hope that he (Benjamin) isn't too 'shouty'

I've listened to him a few times on 5 Live and thought he was OK. I certainly don't recall anything "shouty".

The problem is most of them are OK on the radio commentary but for some reason turn it up to obnoxious levels when they get on TV. Even Croft was more than bearable in his radio days. Alex Jacques is the same now he's gone from 5 Live to TV.

Unfortunately now I've binned off Sky I can't watch the race live with BBC commentary, so I have to put up with C4 shouty commentary.

The problem with "the old switcheroo" is that he uses it whenever 2 cars vaguely close to each other take a different line round a corner.

Fortunately I don't have to put up with the idiot anymore as I do F1TV, however, my Dad still has sky and he tells me crofty tit said Lando's tyres cooled whilst being behind the Virtual Safety Car......what a tit......

Looks like this weekend is the first of 3 without croft on the sky F1 team. I think I'll buy a nowTV day pass to show support for the decision!

I have no idea who Harry is but at last, a bloke from the planet normal.

As my wife commentated, 'it's more of a conversation than a hysterical shout'.

Harry Benjamin took over from Jack Nichols doing the 5live commentary after Jack got cancelled for some supposed inappropriate behaviour with females.

And as Harry was doing Sky, Ben Edwards was doing the 5Live commentary today.
