Middle Lane Drivers, Do they Ever Notice?

I can't remember if it was on here that i read about the "loop the moron" game.
You complete an overtake of a middle lane moron in the outside lane then move to the middle (or third) lane and then to the inside lane or the lane inside your target car before slowing until they overtake you. You then accelerate to re overtake in the correct fashion and repeat as above. managed five loops once, I think northbound on the M3.
Far better you just get on with your day imho. You complete an overtake of a middle lane moron in the outside lane then move to the middle (or third) lane and then to the inside lane or the lane inside your target car before slowing until they overtake you. Someone that oblivious isn’t going to take the hint in any case.

I have also noticed that even in urban environments as soon as there are more than 1 lane some drivers use the overtaking one as the default lane, whether their right turn is in hundreds of yards or they're not turning right. In fairness it now frees up the inside lane quite nicely.
The only hope is that driving instructors drill that down with new drivers but it's not like they are very compliant themselves either...

There you go...there is something worse than the MLM.. someone who consciously uses all the lanes while repeatedly failing to overtake someone. You complete an overtake of a middle lane moron in the outside lane then move to the middle (or third) lane and then to the inside lane or the lane inside your target car before slowing until they overtake you. Not really occupying the moral high ground.

I tried it once for curiousity, and fun, on an empty motorway with one sat there in the middle lane, all on his tod. Made us laugh a chunk. Was very gentle about it, letting him cruise past, then slowly catching up, overtaking, then letting him pass. Did it about 3 times before it felt a bit mental. Wanted to see if someone would keep overtaking me tbh. He did.
Once was enough.
No one cares any more. making a "point" makes no difference UNLESS it's someone who's stopped paying attention. Quite often overtaking one then slotting into L1, NOT aggressively, prompts them to move back to L1. Doing it aggressively has zero impact (unsuprisingly, to the stubborn).
Journied home from London last Sunday and almost all the motorway information signs had either "Don't hog the middle lane", or "Keep left when not overtaking" on, and every time we passed one, a fair few MLMs moved over to L1.
They should have those signs saying that a LOT more :-)

Similar for playing games under/overtaking the same car for fun. Use the Mway to get from A to B and don't contribute to the general stupidity please.

But swisstoni, you have a point. Loop or panic the moron are poor driving shouldn't be encouraged. At worst, either could cause an accident. But perhaps the restrictions which promote boredom should not be imposed. Tedium is not a pre-requisite to safe progress.

3) My preference is too stick cruise on (radar better if you have it) to something around 70.
You utter maniac. 55-60mph would be much safer. As you rightly said - speed kills.Actually safety threshold occurs at 30mph (<50g accident criterion). Over 30mph and things get dodgy.

I was a make progress at all times, move left unless overtaking someone person and to be honest every drive was miserable.

This is very true.Been taking Little Miss Havoc (christ that's an appropriate name for her! ) to holiday club the last couple of days. 8-10 mile drive on trunk road, D-carriageway, open country road and finally town roads. And I've lost count of the sheer number of fking idiots who are driving at least 25% below the limit - frequently 40 indicated in a 50, slowing down further for bends. 55 on a NSL DC...in the overtaking lane! 20 or so through a wide town road...presumably "just in case". All in dry daylight conditions. The same people that peel off a roundabout straight into the right hand (overtaking) lane, and then completely fail to use more than 2mm of throttle pedal.
Then there's the bunch that drive down a trunk road sitting <10 ft from the obstacle car in front, sitting wide so they can see past (because tailgating), and yet failing to overtake (because don't you know it's dangerous), so all they achieve is to block everyone else behind them. Usually a 4x4 too, so you can't see through them.
When did everyone become so SLOW???
On my way home from Nottingham last night and I'd just got onto the M1. Few hundred yards ahead a 23 plate VW Transporter enters, overtakes a caravan and takes up residence in L2, despite L1 being pretty clear. Plenty of time for him to move across and out of the way, but no, seems to be oblivious. He's only doing about 60 as I approach him in L1 doing 65-70.
Did my head in, had to move out from L1-L3 to overtake him, I had hoped that by sweeping back to L1 he'd get the message, alas he stayed there, bimbling away as I left him behind.
Michael

Well, that’s why they aren’t called Middle Lane Experts by all the people who actually can read and understand the Highway Code.
It’s Middle Lane MORONS, because it’s the most accurate description, for someone who is too stupid to understand or accept that their use of the roads is incorrect, both legally and morally.
I don't believe that, not one bit. MLM's know they shouldn't sit in the middle lanes but choose to do so. It isn't that they don't understand the Code nor that they refuse to accept that they are technically in the wrong (unlike those who believe the Code is wrong for speeding and that they know better). It’s Middle Lane MORONS, because it’s the most accurate description, for someone who is too stupid to understand or accept that their use of the roads is incorrect, both legally and morally.
They make a calculated choice to remain in the middle lanes because it suits them to do so - laziness likely being the main reason.
Whereas those who deliberately go much faster that the speed limits do so out of arrogance and an assumption that those who decide speed limits on any given stretch are idiots and should be ignored. It's these law breakers who are the true moron's.

What seems foolish is getting caught & prosecuted if you don't like the consequences of doing so (for any offence).
