On my second Works V8. Love a Defender, and it's the ultimate for me.

Tried all the aftermarket stuff and spent a fortune. A man in a shed can't beat the money and time put into an OEM solution, and only taking the time to understand what it takes an OEM to put a car like this on the road will give you a fair indication of "value."

But, as often is the case on here, people prefer to shoot from hip without any real world experience. I can tell you, I've had the alternatives, and this is much better. I also fully understand why people wouldn't spend the money on Defender, if it's not their thing (obviously!).

The "Trophy Wife" version then, as opposed to the camel trophy.

I like a Defender. I like a V8 Defender even more. The best part of a quarter of a million pounds for this, regardless of anything is utter utter madness.

But you crack on if that's your thing, just please please don't try and justify it to the rest of us.

I've only ever been in two LRs, a hateful Series 1 that broke down at Beachy Head but was cold, draughty, gutless and utterly miserable all day, but it was a trip out with a mate who had got his licence back that day so it was a special day for him.

The next one was his Series 2 with a Ford V6 that had some entertainment value, but I much preferred the V6 in my Capris!

But £225K for a Land Rover has to be some sort of joke. I hate them as much as original Minis, Beetles, 2CVs and Morris Minors. laugh

Funny how people on here judge others on their choice.
You buy this you’re mad, have too much money and so on.
It’s a free world, some watches cost more than this, do we judge people who buy them?
I had actually bought one last year, a 90 Works Edition, but pulled out of the deal eventually.
You can’t get them registered in France as it’s essentially a modified vehicle and I could have had it registered in the UK but it would have been used in France and it gets complicated with insurance, MOT, etc.,…
About value, some people don’t realise the work that has gone into these, you can’t compare those with something you could do yourself in a shed.
This has been built by SVO and has gone through comprehensive testing like they would do for a new model.
Also comparing with a cheaper new Pretender isn’t the point, it’s actually the Works V8 that comes out cheaper as there’s been zero depreciation on these!

Why not? Its interesting to read the views of someone who actually owns one.

Yeah, I found that a bizarre comment. That's like saying a bigger house, or more kids, or two holidays is suddenly unjustifiable by definition, rather than opinion. Just sounds like reverse snobbery to me.

As CSK1 has said, I was trying to indicate there is more that goes into the car than people would think, which is how they at least justify the asking price, even if people don't want to pay for it.

An example is that the engine is designed to submarine in a crash. There is no aftermarket Defender company in the world that would have considered this.

I haven’t given up on buying a 70th Edition Works V8 just yet. I’m longing for another classic Defender ever since I sold my 110, one of the last ones built.
The 110 was very bouncy except when laden and I was wondering how your 90 feels Rob, I’m not speaking of comfort perse but my 110 felt like a skateboard.
From the reviews, the Works V8’s suspension appears to be slightly more compliant.
I actually owned the Works V8 for a few months, I had fully paid for it but SVO took ages to register the car so I decided to ask for a refund which they did no questions asked.
You see there’s someone even more mad than you Rob! smile

Why does the second last photograph show the interior of a 110?

This is ludicrously priced, nearly a quarter of a million £!
Buy any old Defender and take it to any of the multitude of specialists who restore Landrovers with a budget of less than £100k and they build you a damn fine contender to this.
Or for £25k get the spanners out and build yourself one.
I struggle with the idea of spending this much on a classic Defender but any suggestions for those specialists who can supply something similar for less than £100k ?

Both iconic cars, latest G63 is a great vehicle and usable as an everyday car, comfortable over long distances so if that’s your usage, you’re probably better off with a G63. Defenders have kind of a friendly image whereas G63 is a bit well… German Panzer here I come. What I like about the Works V8 (not this Trophy Edition), is that it just looks like a normal Classic Defender and you don’t get noticed.

Crazy price, I respect the engineering involved but that is just bonkers money for a Defender.

What a great piece of kit.

Ideal for going out bush. As long as you have all the gas stations plotted on your GPS and an impressive collection of Jerrycans.

Not really a car ever to be taken upon the adventures it was designed for, certainly not at that price!

Instead, it will be used by someone who's idea of toughing it out is when room service is late, but will no doubt still sport the designer fascial hair, camel-branded khaki shirt and Timberlands. And scurry back to the office on Monday having been 'green landing' somewhere in remote, far north Cheshire over the weekend.
