Recently the local council have been repainting lines and info on the roads and I noticed that, in the town the 'Bus Stops' are now 'Bus Stands' at least according to the yellow writing on the road (metal sign at the shelter still says Bus Stop) - any idea why?

Best of it is, that on one of the 'Stands' it looks like they started writing 'stop' but changed their mind after the t as the a,n & d are cramped into a 2 letter spacing... confused

Apart from anything else it must cost more due to more paint/time to do.

I thought a Bus Stand was where a bus could wait if it needed to, but not pick up or drop passengers.

I've always known both of them.

A bus stop is where it picks up/drops off passengers, a bus stand is typically at the terminus where the drivers change and the bus runs the return route.

Probably so they can dump a bus there for a longer period of time and then the locals can’t complain.

My sister was a driver for a while, they're two totally different things. Bus stand is where they can park the bus for a break, usually at the end of a route before coming back on the same route. They switch off the engine and wait for a period.
