Fooled me there for a sec - it's James GARNER ..

We did have the legendary Aussie tough guy racer Frank Gardner, of course, but I don't think his lesser known half cousin James raced much . Or at all ...

Oops my spelling

It’s a great little film shows how different top level racing was in the late 60’s and he could drive very well for a non pro driver.

Jason Priestly, best known for starring in Beverley Hills 90210 in the 90s.

He's a big racing fan. I remembered he raced at the Long Beach GP/Toyota Pro-Celeb races. He followed it up and raced in Trans Am, Grand Am - won in Mid Ohio, rallying, Infiniti Pro Series - IRL/Indycar feeder series. In the latter he had a massive shunt at Kentucky Speedway that nearly cost him his life.
He also did a few rallies, including Rally Australia (a round on the WRC) in Perth in 1995. I was on the Mitsubishi Ralliart team for that event and staying at the same hotel in Perth, bumped into him in the bar, didn't seem to be many who recognised him (or maybe it was the stellar entry list which made him insignificant!)

While on the topic of Perth WA, the late Heath Ledger raced karts and dabbled in sprintcars briefly (before Hollywood probably put a stop to it)

His dad Kim (a friend and my engine sponsor in the late 80s early 90s) was a regular competitor at Wanneroo and Claremont Speedway for a decade or so.

Indeed- I was on reporting duty for CSCC at Oulton and did a quick interview with him about his MGB GT adventures . It' s the last car he drove on Top Gear apparently. He was a very nice bloke . I think the report will still be on CSCC website .

The story of the MGB is covered extensively in his Discovery TV series Richard Hammond's Workshop.
