That's a serious number.

Anyone on here care to own up?

Whoever it is will be concerned.

Speed on it's own is enough to be 'Dangerous' in the land of Haggis and the punishments are serious. I knew someone who lost his license for 3 years after 130mph on the M74.

Offence: *Dangerous driving
Imprisonment: 2 years
Fine: Unlimited
Disqualification Obligatory
Penalty points: 3-11 (if exceptionally not disqualified)

I think that if they "only" lose their license, and get a wacking great fine - they will count themselves very very lucky..

Because its a better outcome than prison. The Scottish judiciary seem harder-nosed than English ones too, and will I imagine be keen to make an example of this guy in his fancy car on a well-known tourist route.

142mph on an A Road takes some committment, its not a case of "Goodness me Officer, was I?"

As we don't know the details it's impossible to guess at a punisment. Dangerous alone without any aggravating factors such as it being a second or subsequent offence, causing injury, over the limit, using a mobile phone, inclement weather etc etc the list goes on, Is very unlikely to attract an immediate custodial dsentence even in Scotland

Big number but as its a Porsche & someone sadly got killed driving a rare LHD 911 model last Monday in Sussex swerving to avoid a pothole allegedly the 142mph driver is probably not going to be able to drive for a long time & future insurance will be a big problem!

He's screwed then.

Little sympathy if he was doing that speed and didn't clock the police, unless he was breaking hard from 200 but I've even less sympathy then.

I've done into 3 figures on some stretches of those roads, but 140+ is going well beyond reasonable. You've no chance reacting to anything sudden without a very high risk of a large accident.

Indeed, he is certainly in for more than a slap on the wrist

A quick google search suggests that in Scotland a driver caught at 140 mph may expect 4-9 months immediate custody, disqualification 18m-5 years, a mandatory extended retest, and potential forfeiture of his vehicle.

Thank you, Jeez I knew they were draconian, but not that bad. Is that for a first offence, previous good record and no aggravating?

Oh dear! I was immediately charged with dangerous driving when I was caught doing 105.4mph on the M74. Fortunately I had a good solicitor and some really good references. Also it was 1999. I got 8 points and a £300 fine after it was reduced to careless driving.

At 142mph on a road you deserve what’s coming to you, legally.

Odds are, if something happens you’ll still be doing 100mph at the point of the collision.

It’s a reaction and stopping distance of over 220m even in a 911 Turbo S on a perfect surface.

I live near where the person was caught. The locals are all foaming at the mouth, especially when the police announced it was a non local in a Porsche on their FB page...

The road in that section has several long, clear, well sighted straights and the weather was good. I'm not one for driving quickly but 142 is not necessarily unsafe in that car, they were just unlucky to get caught. They also did better than the DB9 that I saw stuffed into a rock face the week before!

I have no issue with speed but 142mph on this kind of road is a little silly imho.

Pick the straight section of your preference and then count how many side roads access it.

How many of those people pulling out would be expecting a car they see far off in the distance, to be approaching them at more than double the speed limit.

Plus other hazards-animals,cyclists. I wonder what it would feel like as a cyclist to have a car pass at 140mph on a single carriageway road like that one? Quite exciting I would think. Even if it was going the other way.
