Thanks for the really useful reply. I've got my centre radiator kit and just need to get it and other parts fitted.

Obvious answer inbound I'm sure, did you get the deep sump from Hartech direct? Do you mind saying how much it was?
Yeah, only available via Hartech or Slakker Racing in the US. I took it to them for the borescope and got it fitted whilst there. Iirc about £1700 fitted with oil, filter etc?

In other news, my fun day out may have killed the offside cat. Exhaust has started rattling from cold - its quite loud too but goes away when warmed up. I tracked down various rusty clamps, some loose, some loose heat shield material and fixed/replaced the lot. But it still rattles when cold. Hammer test seems to indicate the offside cat. This might mean bringing the build forward because I wanted to fit sports manifolds when the engine was done anyway but don't really want to pay the labour twice!

This is the thread re. oil pressure monitoring data:

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/1251933-oil-...

Huge thread, but post 1429 shows a comprehensive data trace from the Hartech sump. Other deep sump options also tested smile

That's really useful - thank you.

I've taken ages to reply as it took some time to read through all that. Really interesting.

I am probably going to get the FVD X51 style sump with 0.6l extra capacity. I wont be doing aggressive track work on Cup2s or anything like that, so its improvements over stock should be more than sufficient to help stave off bore score.

Enjoying your thread. These are such great cars.

Out of interest, my track day 986 S has the 3 radiators as standard. Has a new standard water pump and thermostat. Temp reached 85 deg max at Donny last Monday which was flat out but shifting at 6-6.5K revs. Have removed the A/C so probably a little more air getting to the rads.

Also have the Design911 extended sump which seems to be working, (additional 4 pints). Will be fitting an oil pressure and temp gauge soon.

When I was sorting the brakes, I found threads stripped on both near side hubs so renewed those. Must be common.

Running Bilstein B6 units with 30mm lower H&R springs. Seems very tight on track.

Definitely something in the a/c condensers. Seen some track guys who want to keep a/c remove one condenser for more airflow through one rad. Don't think I'd go that far with this car though with it being road car first, track car second. The threads in the hubs are a pain in the crack though so next time I do discs, I may upgrade to studs and nuts instead to make life easier.

So I sourced a pair of manifolds with sport cats and decided to get them fitted soon so I get some of the (so called) summer out of the car. These are Janspeed equal-length manifolds with HJS 200 cell sports cats that I picked up for the same price as a Top Gear/Designtek pair. Getting the shop to fit as I don't want to mess around drilling out broken exhaust studs on the drive. And also while it's there, getting KW V3s, adjustable rear toe arms and GT3 m/c fitted along with new rear coffin arms, tuning forks, top mounts etc.

I've also got a set of the new 2Forge ZF8 wheels in bronze, 18x8.5 and 18x10 with Continental CS7 ready to go on. So some pics inbound when the car comes back.

At this point, engine rebuild aside, I'm pretty much where I want to be with the car. Everything else will be minor preferential mods and replace/upgrade as required as time goes on. Maybe an LSD/ATBD at some point in the future if i feel I would get the benefit. The most important thing now will be just to keep driving it smile

And to close, some footage of a very clear Oulton Park from May's trackday.

All good stuff. Interested to see a RR graph after fitting the mods.

As for an LSD. I don’t think there is a need for one with near standard power and sticky tyres. I fitted one to my fwd vRS track car. Before it used to spin the inner wheel easily, (as it was modded and mapped). With LSD fitted wheelspin was 90% eliminated.

As for the Porsche, having done about a dozen TD’s in my 987 and 986 S’s, neither have encountered any inner wheel breakaway at all in the dry. Possibly wet may be different? In my view an LSD would be a waste of money…
