Neil, you’ve got to remember this is a Pistonheads forum.

A lot of contributors take a really good subject being discussed. And then turn it into a laughable argument.

Because they have little else going on, and it makes them feel ‘Special’.

Best of luck with book Neil.

Good evening, let me introduce myself: I'm Neil Sheppard, author of the 2011 book, Donald Campbell Bluebird and the Final Record Attempt.
Those are my credentials. Did I mention anything about it being for sale, 13 years after the event. Is that the best you can do?

Gentlemen, please. Let's not have this thread closed as well.

Let's agree to disagree, eh?

IMO. There has been some seriously grumpy old men who have visited this recently, who have nothing better going on in their lives . Yet to call out some missing screws.

And complain.

It’s like someone kicking the tires on a second - hand car you are presenting. Each knowing the history.

This isn’t right, that’s not right. I would have done it this way . Totally opinionated.

With an axe to grind. For whatever purpose is hard to understand.

I keep repeating this, I know, but the problem as I see it (yes, it's opinion... that's what discussion forums are for) is that it's neither one thing nor the other.

If a decision was made (and I believe it was, and a written contract exists to that effect) to restore the boat to running, pre-crash condition, I could live with that, if it was done properly (and despite the fact it would result in a significant loss of originality).

If a decision had been made (as I believe the HLF originally favoured) that the wreck should have been carefully conserved as a museum piece, to fully preserve its originality and authenticity, I could have lived with that, too.

As it is, we've got the worst of both worlds: the originality and authenticity of the boat has been destroyed, but it's certainly not in pre-crash condition and, as everybody is saying, now that it's out of the hands of a bunch of cowboys with no respect for public health and safety or the historic importance of the boat, it's unlikely to ever run again.

Can you all now shut up please, Equus especially? You're liked a scratched fking record, wrecked every previous thread and it's getting very boring. Shut up. Thankyou.

It was someone else who wrecked every thread by being a dreadful human being and a vexatious litigant. He casts a long turd-shaped shadow.

The mods have actually deleted my post that was polite in pointing out someone was selling a book. Apparently that comment was offensive yet this is allowed to stay…..

Either the guy with the book asked for it to be removed or someone flagged it for advertising I reckon.

Anyway, we're all still here for the moment. smile

If by the guy with the book, you mean me, I certainly did not ask for anything to be removed, nor did I comment on any post to PH. I got an email from PH advising me that some comments had been removed. Not at my instigation. I think the test for any forum is to use language that you would be happy to use in a face to face conversation.

This thread is teetering on the edge of going the same way as previous threads on the same subject: deletion.
The boat is now back on public display so can everyone please move on from the tit for tat allegations regarding the restoration.
Oh… and please try to be civil to each other, I presume those posting here are all interested in Bluebird so there should be no need for arguments.

Daft questions if I may? The restoration was paid-for wasn't it? Assuming yes, who funded it?

I was going to explain my understanding, but didn't want to get it wrong.

Something about a Ltd Co being peddled as a charity, but wasn't registered with the charity commission.

Long one short, I think it was funded by public donations and a lot of volunteers giving their time.
