Personally I think London needs some sort of proportional representation system. Not sure how it would work, be something that balances the needs of the various different groups, and also does something about inequality, crime, transport, and the mess our councils are in.
I doubt it would make much difference. Huge swathes of 'inner' London are not affected by issues that affect 'outer' London - that's the problem. So Khan can promise crazy stuff like ULEZ which makes no difference to those in central London [who can't imagine why anyone would need a car] - the Oyster cap freeze for example will be enough to bribe the masses. For example I regularly sit in a traffic jam in SW London - either on a bus or car - because there of limited transport infrastructure. ULEZ will not fix any of this - we need a joined up transport network that connects all parts of London - but whoever is in power will only care about vanity projects and getting re-elected.Killboy said:

"the will of the people" and all that. It seems to have worked for us in 2016.

Maybe London can be proportionally represented nationally too.Personally I think London needs some sort of proportional representation system. The city requires better governance as with all that money there is huge inequality, violent crime, and council funding is a mess.

Did you mean that London disproportionately adds to the year UK tax take or some other proportional representation? Other regions need to pay their fair share, but the majority of the higher paying jobs are here in London. The City of London itself provides something like 15%+ of total UK tax.

Its double that The city requires better governance as with all that money there is huge inequality, violent crime, and council funding is a mess.
And right now it suits the ruling party that London has issues - a bit counter productive.

I thought TFL needed money? I don't see the point in cutting fares on a Friday, when the extra money could be used elsewhere to make commuters lives easier.

If it attracts more passengers onto the network then surely it's a win?I thought TFL needed money? I don't see the point in cutting fares on a Friday, when the extra money could be used elsewhere to make commuters lives easier.
London businesses have welcomed the move and fares collected on a Friday will hopefully increase so what's the problem?

- 20mph speed limits.. what the hell
Don't drive much in London so wasn't aware of how bad it had got, but the other day I was setting off early so decided to drive through London for a change rather than go around and, what the hell indeed, 20 mph limits most of the way on wide empty roads. crazy idea.... its not the 20mph limits that make your journey faster or slower... its the traffic lights, and endless traffic.
i drive round town alot, 20mph or 40mph its not going to change the end result. average speed is sub 10mph.
its just another thing the tories like to get their gammons wound up about, the war on the motorist.

When I say "early" I mean just before 5am. I only started to have any significant number of cars around me, let alone traffic, around the Thames in central London.i drive round town alot, 20mph or 40mph its not going to change the end result. average speed is sub 10mph.

So yes. I could have driven the route at 30 mph if the limit had permitted it.

For me as a Londoner, I consider the following important
- Crime. Need more police on the streets, and every burglary/shop lifting/anti social crime needs to be attended
- Housing costs (rent, council tax)
- Council waste
- 20mph speed limits.. what the hell
crime - MET budget cut by tories, youth funding cut by tories - Crime. Need more police on the streets, and every burglary/shop lifting/anti social crime needs to be attended
- Housing costs (rent, council tax)
- Council waste
- 20mph speed limits.. what the hell
housing - political issue by tory nimbys. see cockfosters car park for a good one
council waste - tory cuts
20 mph speed limits / ulez - the fact you think thats an issue is nuts
for me as a londoner i would like to see:
better funded transport, more ebike options
ban private cars from z1, higher CC and Ulez. Higher parking costs
pedestrianise oxford street - get more tourists spending cash
fund youth services better, will reduce petty crime
stop planning getting bogged down by locals, set it at a mayoral level London Plan and stick to it. If a site has 100m heigh and room for 500 homes thats what it gets. build 100% affordable on council land, there is st loads of it. Start a council DM

Someone from Petts Wood will be along in a moment to tell you that ULEZ is the biggest issue that "Londoners" face.

In some places yes, in all places around London, No. I just travelled from Wimbledon to Putney on the A219 and well nobody seemed to be obeying the 20mph limit. It's a ridiculous speed limit for a 1.6 mile stretch of straight road. Some of the cyclists go faster than 20mph.z4RRSchris said:

Do you drive? I'll give you an example - Streatham High road coming down from Brixton. It's 20mph all the way and it's difficult at night time to drive down this major road without going over 20mph. It's not a suitable road. 20mph around schools/side streets - absolutely fine, but not on major roads.z4RRSchris said:

Totally respect your thoughts on this. Don't agree with banning cars from Z1, but do agree with the other points.better funded transport, more ebike options

Knife crime, shoplifting, and low level unsocial behaviour. I don't care who does it, but this needs tackling. We need more police on the streets as a visible deterrent.

Kids outside of London manage without this. I wonder why?

Spend more money
Remove people's freedoms
Evil Tories
Not very original, is it?
You mention housing: if immigration was controlled there'd be enough housing! But you won't say that because your ideology loves it.
Susan Hall is an absolute shambles.
Sad times that she's the only alternative to the current crackpot who could have been an excellent mayor but seems more interested in cooking the books/shifting blame to try and leave a legacy that isn't record number of strikes and record knife crime.
