If a city is okay then Mrs Loto and I had a fabulous week in Porto last October - high 20's all week and great food, accomodatrion and people. Flew from Brum.

...can get the train to the beach, which is nice - around 40 mins from centre. We stayed in the old part looking over to Gaia - great architecture and general vibe about the place.

As has been mentioned already, Crete is both ideal for the time of year you're looking at, and big and varied enough that a 2nd, 3rd or even 4th visit can still turn up something different.

Personally, I'd steer well clear of the north coast, it's way too built up and completely lacking in charm. Apart from Ierapetra, you can't really go wrong on the south coast, but my preference is either Paleochora is the south west corner, or Paleokastro on the east coast. Not really sure what to recommend in the way of hotels though, as we always go "self catering". Plenty of Villas with pools to rent.

What about a combination of Corfu and Albania? It's only a 20 minute ferry ride and the historical city of Gjirokaster is a short drive from the coast.

Well out of peak season (Albania) and still very warm.

Do you have any hotel recommendations?

Antalya, Turkey.

Many All-INc Hotels in both Lara Beach, Antalya and Belek

Been just down the road from there in Belek the last 10+ years on a Golf Holiday in October , weather has always been mid/high twenties.

Check out the Gloria Serenity Hotel.
Was going to recommend this as well. We went last year mid-Sept. This year we will be trying another recommendation from above > Ikos Kos first week of Oct.

Aquila Rithymna Beach in Rethymno is our go to every year. We love it there. Home from home. Fantastic staff.
Got married there too last year.

I’d recommend The Ideon Hotel in Rethymno. A third of the price of the above but excellent value and right next to harbour and old town.

Personally generally stay away from hotels in Greece as we prefer apartments/villas, eating out. The last thing I’d want in Greece is 5* AI!

We always stay here for some of the time in Greece

Nothing flash but spotlessly clean, great owners, immaculate pool and 20m from Beach and restaurants. Circa €50 a night.

Sicily is fantastic and would be very warm in October. My only tip would be that it's the size of Wales so don't expect to do it in a week.

Flying in to Jerez (25 deg C in Oct) for El Puerto de Santa María and Cadiz would be worth considering. A 3-hour hopover.

Canaries will be lower living costs (food, drink, car hire etc.) than certainly Spanish / Italian med resorts.

...but of course the water is effing cold all year round. Depends if that matters to you.

We've done Playa Blanca (Lanzarote) a few times now - it's the best major resort on the island and there's a good choice of restaurants, plus you've Timanfaya, Cesar Manrique and some cool caves all a short drive way.

If we were going there and wanted a good but not AI resort within walking distance of the town centre, the Iberostar is probably the one to pick - they've an adults only exclusive wing on the western side, are right next to a small-but-decent beach, and are only 15-20 minutes walk from bars and restaurants.

Agree with Sicily but how about western Sicily? This is local to us. https://www.seawaterhotels.com

If your flights are complete by mid October there are flights from Manchester and Stansted to Birgi-Marsala airport which is around 10km from Marsala.

Radisson Malta Golden Sands
I was going to suggest this - we were in Malta in November last year for a client meeting and it was very warm. We’re going back to visit the same client in October this year, so I’m hoping to plan a few days holiday beforehand to relax and do some sightseeing.
We’ve done Malta twice in October and it’s been excellent both times. Hoping to go again this year, timing it to see the Mdina Grand Prix. https://www.maltaclassic.com/

We have been to most of these destinations in October, and prefer Paphos Cyprus.

This is on the same time my mrs. wants to go, so will have to look into this in more detail.

I saw a programne about Malta recently which said there were something like 30,000 classic cars on the island, so I was expecting something like Cuba with all sorts of old cars all over the place. cool

In a week of being there the oldest thing I saw was a beige Mk 4 Escort. frown
