Very loud thunderstorm accompanied by lightning south Hampshire at the moment. Sounds as if mostly in the channel but very loud thunderclaps equals unsettled dog currently shivering and shaking in the bedroom.

Jesus Christ I’ve never seen a thunderstorm like this one! Absolutely mental. Lightning every 3-4 seconds!

Woken up at about 05:15 by the loudest thunderclap I’ve ever heard. Entire house shook. S Oxfordshire.

Where was this?

I woke up very briefly to thunder and heavy rain in Surbiton but not sure anything can tempt me out of bed to look out of the window at that time in the morning. Sounds like I may have missed a spectacle.

Dorking. Utterly mental. Gutters overflowing with with rain and hail at one point.

But I looked on weather radar and we were under a very thin line of intensity so it might have been very localised

I looked at the live lightningmaps.org and it was showing a huge mass of strikes across the Portsmouth to Brighton area, and a rate of 231 strikes a minute. On the map it looked like fireworks popping off.

For me it was pretty bright and continuous, and I'm off the western edge of that area.

It reached West Berks but not special in any sense - I think it was mostly cloud-cloud lightning too.

Just to add, I’m in Fareham and we only had a minuscule amount of rain, it was just thunder and lightning.
Some claps were loud enough to set off car alarms.
Dog never settled so it was a bloody long night! Flipping animal is sleeping fine now though….

In Ayrshire, temperature is high teens and the the sun is shining but just to spoil it, it's blowing a gale.

My wife's off this week and was really hopeful about the weather!! Not sure I'm brave enough to tell her about this. hehe
