Thanks all, the good news is the distances are likely to be between London and the solent so doable. Charging with a trailer attached is a good point.

My iX3 has the factory folding tow bar and is rated to 750kg if that helps.

I've got a Volvo XC40 Twin Motor, with a factory fitted towbar.

Rated towing capacity is 1800kg

i'm expecting around a 150mile range when towing.

Depends what you are towing?

We'd all expect towing a big old caravan to knock efficiency, but I've noticed a significant impact towing relatively small light sailing dinghies.
If you've got a 500 mile tank range, it can be hard to notice poor economy for a 200 mile towing journey, but if you measure it or do a stupidly long towing trip, the effect is real. It can be offset by generally going a bit slower and smoother though. Back last century when we had a more healthy disdain for speed limits, we managed some appalling MPG in a variety of vehicles.

Filling an IC car with a boat on the trailer can be a bit fraught too! Where's the mast going on that sharp turn?

When I were a lad, some of the hardcore sailing community used to put fair sized racing dinghies on the roof, complete with 20ft mast, to avoid the lower speed limits for trailers!

My Polestar 2 has a towbar and is rated to 1500kgs. I've used it a few times to tow a trailer, yes range is lowered but as my towing is all local, 30 miles from home max then I don't worry about charging away from home.
But I do have a bike rack for the towbar and have wondered what would be the best way to charge if I was towing longer distances and why don't they have drive through charging stations.
