lol, you sit your kids in a car for 20 hours with one break? Course you do.
We stop for 5 minutes on the Autobahn for toilet breaks. You do realise on the continent you have motorway lay bys not like in the UK where the roads are just crap.

I understand in the UK that "long" roadtrips are alien but I did Washington to Florida with my uncle a few years ago and that was a normal thing folk do over there.
Yep, I did nr Scranton PA to Orlando FL via DC two up sharing driving with various stops for breaks and a bit of tourism here and there. Felt it when we got there though.

I haven't had a major component failure in my Japanese boring cars for a few decades now. Nor in my partner's various econo-boxes, except the Renault.

I see that Renault are now grouped with Nissan and Mitsubishi, which must be bad news for Nissan and Mitsubishi.
Modern Nissans are rubbish, if that article was for the 1.2 Nissan then I suspect it’s the thermostat failing and cooking the engine. The engines are pretty cheap from Nissan at 5k (when you compare it to the equivalent vw)

Every time the range of EVs increases, the range pistonhead ICE boomers drive without stopping increases.

We will see some comical claims in the coming years. They will be sharing the driving with the whole family, hot swapping on the go.

I've modified my 1998 Ford Mondeo (which I own outright) to be able to refuel on the move when we do our family trip from Manchester to Beijing in one go.

news that CATL are putting their new LFP cells into the model Y juniper. 600 miles, very flat charging curve, almost no performance reduction in freezing conditions, 50-60 USD kWh.

quite a leap if the claims are good in the real world.

The idea of having to spend an hour every 150 miles in an electric Berlingo t refuel it compared to 5 minutes every 500 miles in a diesel Berlingo is too much of an inconvenience

Are there any plans to speed up charging?
Any news on a solid state battery coming to the car market?
Lithium batteries can’t be the long term answer, they are too much of an inconvenience and also not cheap to replace,

Cars that charge at 200kW can add more than 10 miles per minute, ie 150 miles needs only 15 minutes charge time. The technology already exists, it just needs to filter down to more affordable EVs from the premium ones.

Until CATL can offer a battery that has a real world range of at least 1,000 miles at autobahn speeds in a car that will cost less than a 10 year old mondeo, I think that many people on here will never want to get an EV.

If you are overly concerned about the future value of an asset, don’t own it, pay a fixed fee you are happy with for the use of it.
Do you guys rent your TV's as well?
Do you worry about the resale value of your tv?
Fun fact: a regular size plasma screen or one of those council-spec 75 inch LEDs, permanently on, will consume more electricity than an EV doing 8000 miles a year.
Tigger will be doing loops now to prove that it's the EV chomping through all the fossil fuel and the TV that's wind-powered.
Assuming he hasn't gone off for another 3 week nap...
Lets check this.

Worst energy rating 75in TV at Currys is this G rated. https://www.currys.co.uk/products/hisense-75a6ktuk...

Worst case power usage in HDR mode 210W, run it for 24h = ~5kWh

Run that all year round and you get a grand sum of 1840kWh

Onto the Car, most EV's will manage between 3 and 4 miles per kWh.... which means that for 1840kWh you have between 5518Mi and 7358Mi.

Close but no, it won't consume more.

Isn’t it a moot point as most Tesla owners are the types to have a council spec 75” tv as well as their EV getmecoat

Or the posh Tesla owners that have a cinema room next to their orangery in the East Wing of the mock Tudor mansion.
