2009 DBS

I know this has been covered before, but I thought I'd share my experience. I knew when I brought the car that there were fastener heads missing on the back of both front discs (pre-purchase inspection) and was able to use this as a negotiating play considering £10k replacement.

When I got the discs off, I could see the missing fastener heads, but I wasn't quite expecting virtually every mounting point having hairline cracks.
The car has done 62k miles and is in otherwise fantastic condition.

Having seen some of the other stories of similat issues, its clear to me that these first generation carbon ceramic discs fitted to cars of the noughties, (and its not just Astons, Ferraris, Mclarens and Bentleys), had this as a design issue. I know some manufacturers did a recall on them.

So I would just say to anyone looking at buying a car of this era with the carbon ceramics (DBS, DB9, Vantage V12) to look out for these accordingly as its very difficult to diagnose or see with the discs still on the car

Are those cracks definitely an issue ?
These discs can have cracks from manufacture that aren’t an issue ( bit like old oak beams ).

From OPs post its the discs mounting points that have hairline cracks not the actual discs as in the photo.

The cracks were on the area highlighted below (easily visible) where the metal fasteners pass through the carbon disc to the metal mounting plate on the other side.
Literally all these locations on one disc had hairline cracks.
