Hi,

I’ve started trying to do some filming from the car with my hero 12, I have the suction mounts meaning I can stick the camera on the outside of the car. Is there anyway of cutting down the wind noise? Some sort of wind break device or a remote microphone?

In short, no.

The way to record car noises is to buy a separate audio recorder and run small mic to the back of the car, taped to near the exhaust and out of the oncoming air. If you set the Go Pro and Audio recorder to record and make a distinct and loudish noise, like a clap, before you set off, you will be able to sync the audio in the edit, ditching the GoPro audio.

This (I think) would be a cheaper option that setting up a remote mic connected to the camera and will also give you far better quality audio. The audio capability on the GoPro is not really that good.

You could use a mic running out of the go pro but you have to find a route for the wire and the wire may not be long enough.

There are dead-cat type mufflers and similar but these are designed to deal with gusts of wind and would be ineffective on their own.

Or bin the ambient sound and put some appropriate music on. But personally I prefer some car-related noise as per Steve's post. Depends what you want the final video to be like. Don't just shoot miles of footage then try to make it into something, have an end plan and work backwards from there.
