But why ban having a seat though? I would have thought it would make them safer.

Obesity and reckless riding is a separate issue.
It then becomes a different class? Ebike or moped?

12.4mph might not be a lot but I bet its around top average speed of a commuter on a brompton
Indeed. Whilst many on here will be foaming at this approach, it strikes me as simple and sensible. Restrict the speed and make them subject to the same rules as bicycles. Job jobbed.
Too sensible for the UK luddite lobby, i fear.
Seems perfectly sensible for those who want to use e-scooters and are happy to obey those rules.

However I don't envy the police trying to deal with those who are not obeying the rules.

Bicycles also have standards for brakes, structural integrity, electrical safety, object avoidance and step performance.

Most e-scooters were sold as toys, and have none of that.

The issue is more than just speed.

Easy to solve that the same way they have in Europe; e-scooters must have type approval from the manufacturer.

As to your point comparing to bikes, many of the old knackers a decade old trundling around will be far from defect free. Not like there is a MOT for bikes and I doubt many get serviced outside of cycling enthusiasts.

12mph is too slow. I have an escooter with this limit and it is annoyingly slow, even more so on any hill when it struggles to hit 8mph. 15mph is the limit for ebikes so why not have the same?

Sure this is going to help the situation. Not.

I’m all for legal e-scooters, but they do need to be regulated. Ie built to a standard.

"Det Con Liah Lane, of Nottinghamshire Police’s serious collision investigation unit, said the force does not believe the e-scooter was involved in a collision with another vehicle, but are continuing to investigate the incident."

Police showing themselves up as not being the brightest crayons as per usual. One look at the state of the road surface answers the question as to how he ended up on his arse rolleyes .

The road legal version is £3500. And it weighs a whopping 34 kgs. Nobody is paying £3500 or even £3000 for one when you can buy a no-name one for a tenth of the cost, ride it on the road and be safe in the knowledge that nothing will ever happen as the police have openly admitted that policing them is too much like hard work because you'll be impossible to catch.

The new electric Swifty GO GT500 is available to pre-order now in the UK for summer delivery at RRP £3499. The price includes the UK vehicle registration. Customers will need a CBT or motorcycle licence, insurance and a motorcycle helmet to ride the Swifty GO GT500 legally on UK roads.

I can't disagree with either statement, but maybe it might get the governing bodies start to think again then we might have something like the PureElelctric

Do you happen to work for swiftyscooters? I notice the link between your name and their HQ and also the fact that you've spammed the link to the bike numerous times in this thread and the other one.

Not that it matters as absolutely nobody is paying 3 grand for a 50 quid stand-on scooter with a motor bolted to it.

It's £3k or whatever, for legal, 24mph, 25 mile range urban transport.
It's an alternative to a petrol twist'n'go.

Personally, for three grand, I expect a 100mph estate car.
But if you're 16 and want to get across town, things look a bit different.

Three grand doesn't go far in fashionable e-bikes which are slower, harder to store etc.

Three grand is a lot of hours on minimum wage though.
When I was 17, I got an unskilled holiday job for 5 weeks, did some crazy amount of overtime and saved enough to buy a brand new100cc Suzuki, although in the end I bought a used one and a boat.
65mph flat out wasn't enough though....

I have absolutely no financial interest in SwiftyScooters nor do I work for them. I'm just trying to make people aware of whatt is going on in the world of e-scooters, the first I'd heard of them was an article on Road.cc.

If youve find a link somehwere between my username on here and their HQ I would be interested to see that, thanks.

Fair enough. Your username coupled with them being based down the road in Manchester seemed a bit too coincidental for the amount of times you've been posting the same product link. scratchchin

No one is going to pay 3k for THAT though. Its hideously overpriced.

Plus it's not legal. No matter what others might say. It's not a development. A development would be from China and probably where that scooter can be bought from anyway at a lower price.

£3k, plus insurance, if you can find an insurance company who'll insure it? MOT when it needs it (not sure how it will pass that), and you must have a D/L with at least the AM category and have passed a CBT. So it'll be quite a bit more in the end.
