It's a stonkingly good deal isn't it. Im surprised they are doing it.
Its quite simple why they are letting you do it. They really want you to do it. It's not a hack, its just a reward for early adopters.
In the long run it gets millions of more people on the scheme.
Some will auto renew and just forget they have it, others will like and get used to using it, as it is the delivery method of the future.

Its a bit like how MS didnt mind home users cracking Office and Adobe ignoring people cracking Photoshop at home.
It makes them a part of people lives and that does wonders for establishing an industry standard that companies then adopt, spending billions with them.

I realise that, but they would surely tempt plenty by just allowing a maximum of one years God conversion to Ultimate.

i'm surprised they let us convert 3 years of Gold, I'd expect them to limit it to 1 year, with any remaining being converted at a different ratio. That would give us 1 year of Ultimate for £1, whilst still tempting us to continue the subscription afterwards.

I want to do this as I currently have access to an Xbox 1 and planning to buy a series X.

Just to confirm - The best plan is to buy 36 months of gold on cdkeys and then buy the £1 ultimate deal?

On my Xbox at the moment the deal is 3 months of ultimate for £1 - which doesn’t sound like the same deal you guys are getting?

It's the same deal. Its the only deal they have.

What it doesn't tell you though is that when you pay your £1 they will convert any existing Gold to Ultimate. But it MUST be existing membership that you have already redeemed and ctivated.

So if you load up with the maximum of 3 yrs Gold before taking up the £1 offer then all your 3 yrs of Gold will turn into 3 yrs of Ultimate for just £1. Then, when the 3 yrs of your Ultimate ends, the 3 months (that you paid your £1 for) start, so you actually get 3 yrs & 3 months of Ultimate for £1.

When adding each year of Gold, if you select recurring payment then they give you an extra month free (you cancel recurring payment afterwards) so you get 13 months. Add your second year and you now have 2 yrs & 2 months of Gold. But this means you can't add your third full year as that would take you to 3 yrs & 3 months, which they don't allow, the maximum you can have is 3 yrs of Gold.

If so, either don't choose recurring payments, or instead of buying 3 x 12 months membership, get...
2 x 12 months
1 x 6 months
1 x 3 months
(total 2yrs 9 months)

You can choose recurring membership when adding each full year, and get a free month for each of them. This will give you 2 yrs 11 months of Gold.

If you already have some existing Gold membership then factor this into the equation so you don't go above 3 yrs Gold. It won't allow you to add any Gold if its going to take you above the max 3 yrs.

XBOX Store doesn't sell 12 month Gold memberships, so buy it from somewhere like CD Keys which is who I used.

Fingers crossed I have an Xbox Series X being delivered on the 24th for my daughter. Will this pass work on the series X -

https://www.cdkeys.com/xbox-live/memberships/12-mo...

If so, I'll order her 3 of those, seems like decent enough price anyway!

Thats the perfect outcome, it will take you to the maximum 3 full years.
Just be careful you don't currently have more than one month of Gold. If you currently have, say, 1 months and 1 day, it won't let you add one of your Gold purchases as that will take you one day over the three year limit.

I'm confused now, the pricing I'm finding seems to be just as cheap to buy 3 x 1 year @ £39.99. (The 6 month is £23.99 and £16.99).

Just to check as well, does the EU version on the xbox one pass work on the series x?

3 x 1 year is the cheapest, but if you've already got some Gold remaining then that will take you over the 3 year maximum limit.
So to allow for any existing Gold, and for the free months given for each 1 year sub, you may have to buy it in chunks, such as 2 x 1 year, 6 months and 3 months etc.
The free months have to be factored in as well, as they might take you over the three year limit.

Not sure about the EU version, I played safe and bought the UK version, as the deal was good enough anyway.

Cheers. CDKeys don't sell a UK version, only the EU version. I'll buy one of those, as others have said they use that site, and see if it works before buying 2 more.

I bought this one from CD Keys, but hopefully the EU and other cheaper ones will work too...

Once its all done, and you have GP Ultimate, you can turn off recurring membership if you wish.

I used the EU ones.

Which ever way you get to the 3 years with the passes is a significant saving over monthly ultimate cost anyway.
