Weekend driving bans threatened in Germany to save the climate

Although climate crisis liepoop has been out of the donkey for some time and won't be going back, it'll be 5 to 10 years at best before the farce unwinds. This is obvious, even with opinion-type content from Prof Pielke who, being no different to IPCC, isn't infallible. In God We Trust everyone else must bring data...nullius in verba Prof P.https://www.welt.de/politik/deutschland/article250...

I have updated a piece that I first published at Forbes in January 2020. It tells an very important part of the story of how the most extreme emissions scenario — RCP8.5 — came to dominate climate research, assessment, and policy. It is quite an amazing tale.
Which means that it dominated USA and UK climate politics.Climate Cooking
How a few billionaires helped push climate science to the extremes

Do you read any articles you post?? Not sure if you read beyond the headlines?
Prof Pielke thinks the same as Mike Hulme, that the climate crisis propaganda actually undermines any real action on man made climate change.
They both acknowledge that man made climate change is real but think a different political approach is needed to help.
I know that opinion is unpopular and maybe if we want some positive action we need to appeal to each nations characteristics. The 'boiling' narrative seems to be a shock and awe tactic....which many 'Brits' are not seduced by and does feel a bit condescending .... But how else could you accelerate decarbonisation? To be fair, I think the current pace of change to net zero in the UK is about right.....
These papers are a little frustrating as they don't paint a picture of a way forward, they just feel like in-fighting in the scientific community rather than dealing with the elephant in the room.
'Lie poop' is a new one on me too I suppose I just need to get used to the posting style, it just reminds me of chatting to my teenage kids not a researcher.....

You, Mike, seem to still imagine that the colossally idiotic ‘global boiling’ statement and Gore’s stupid ‘the oceans are boiling’ fkwittery is ‘shock and awe’, but the reality is that the ‘crisis/emergency’ rhetoric is equally absurd and fantastical.
What is the elephant in the room you write of?

Most sensible scientists (I.e non activists) have long regarded the progenitor of the ridiculous climate crisis/emergency narrative (RCP 8.5) as utter nonsense and, as posted, numerous times on here, rather unhelpful for policy making (understatement).

The elephant in the room is whether we are acting quickly enough or whether the pace is right. Not tearing apart every model and saying it is obviously wrong because it is 0.5% out on the temperature.
In the UK, I think the pace is about right. Shame other countries are not at the same pace....perhaps why the 'shock and awe' tactics are being deployed?

So you agreed that the ban on new diesel and petrol cars by 2030 to be "on pace" but now you agree that kicking it down the road 5 years is also "on pace"?
I agree 2035 is about right, but obviously some hurdles to overcome. Not that I am buying into the tech yet As for me, I have just over 900hp on the drive currently. A 503 bhp XKR and a 408 bhp Volvo BEV. The Volvo is great, perfect daily for Mrs D. We just love surfing the crest of the company leasing BEV wave. Do embrace BEVs they make far better dailies that st box diesels or petrols.

The madness of taos climate policymaking continues with yet more Not Zero wibble. This example may be a tactical cunning punt, but the same silly cult is behind it.

Do you just use other posts as a means to fire off a bit of autogenerated turbowaffle, or are you only recycling because you haven't got anything else to meet today's quota?

The proposed weekend driving ban is hardly daft, if you believe we are in an existential climate crisis.
I agree climate change should not be a political football, but the German transport minister seems to have other ideas.I don't think there is a climate crisis yet but it is worthwhile taking, as pragmatically as possible, as many actions as we can.

I run an old air-cooled VW campervan too, for full disclosure. So, I don't need 900bhp to be a rebel.....
And to ride the taxation wave, I own three vehicles and don't pay any vehicle tax.....
Scotland to drop its net zero targets….. strange it’s not getting more traction in the media……… a brief mention in the headlines, poor Greta will have a meltdown…..

She will no doubt. Reality is dawning. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-68841141
From the Telegraph this morning:
“[…] in a deeply embarrassing climbdown, Mr Yousaf’s SNP-Green government is expected to use a Ministerial Statement at Holyrood today to confirm the 2030 target has been ditched. Harmful emissions were supposed to have been cut by three-quarters compared to 1990 levels.
BBC Scotland reported a final goal of Scotland being net zero by 2045 – five years ahead of the rest of the UK – will remain but annual climate targets for emissions from sectors such as transport and heating could also be scrapped.
The climbdown is expected to be announced after the UK’s official climate watchdog said last month that the current rate of progress in cutting greenhouse gases would have to be increased by a factor of nine for the 2030 target to be met.
In a damning report, the Climate Change Committee (CCC) said this level of increase was “beyond what is credible” and was double the most “ambitious” scenario it had modelled if stringent measures were introduced.”

I dunno, if they keep going at the current trajectory the country will turn into a barren wasteland with little activity, economic or otherwise, that will produce co2. From the Telegraph this morning:
