Went out to check fences on Thursday morning , took one of our dogs with me . Parked up then set off on foot into a pasture along the bottom of our valley , all going normally until pooch starts getting spooked by something , sun was still very low and I was looking around then noticed movement behind a hedge some fifty feet away , It was large and grey , moving a few steps at a time getting closer each time , first thought was a deer so no worries until the animal came out from behind the hedge , a Wolf and it was massive , it stopped and stared and we were frozen to the spot trying to think of options ,no dog lead or gun so fairly limited, it started to wander off for a few paces before turning around and coming back , Decision made and we high tailed it back to my pickup pronto . Last Wolf sighting was nearly 5 yrs ago so they're obviously back , mental note to be more prepared in future .

How did your dog act around it?

I'd had thought pegging it was likely to make them both react.

My dog was my biggest concern but he was scared and stayed right by my side fortunately , didn't run just walked briskly . The next day he startled a Coyote in the undergrowth , not been his best week poor guy .

Let's assume the OP added 'Canada' to his profile subsequently smile

I went to Canada looking for bears. I even paid to go on a special bear trip to see bears. There weren't any.

I guess the wolves ate them all hehe

I wouldn’t bother checking the profile of each person that starts a new thread.

Canada looks to be an amazing place. I was watching some videos early and thought it would be a great place to take a long holiday.

That is super cool! Although I can imagine a little concerning.

Both my brother-in-laws each have a Moose that regularly visits their garden. One likes to take a shower in the sprinklers in the summer.

I’d love to see a wolf…apparently they do exist in this area but I’m not familiar with where.

We have black bears around but generally they keep themselves away , go to BC and you can find bears almost anywhere . Used to collect honey from a farm near Hope BC , bear central of course , buggers were everywhere .

It is , stay away from the major cities and it'll be like stepping back in time . East coast NB NS and PEI are nuts with very Celtic roots , Quebec and Ontario leave me cold , MB and SK are rural farming communities where time stands beautifully still , Alberta is Oil and ranches then BC is simply stunning in everyway except Vancouver .
Back on topic , neighbour called in earlier to warn me of Wolf sightings LOL .
