We've done a last minute deal on a few days in Italy next week. The town is Gabicci Mare, which is south of Rimini.

Looking at the coast, there isn't much to see other than beaches. The timing is bad for the GP at Imola, or the bikes/GTs at Misano, so does anyone have any suggestions for walks in the hills or places to visit.

We will have a hire car, so travelling is relatively easy.

Not looking to drive more than an hour or so to find something, but if there's a real 'must do' we'd consider it.

Yes, we've been to Florence and we're going to have a look round Bologna on our way in/out.

We've been to Rimini a few times as we like the area, i'd definitely recommend a trip up to old town rimini. If you do then try an ice cream from 3bis, its VERY good.

I would also suggest having a drive up to San Marino.

If you like aeroplanes there is a museum with loads of random planes sort of halfway between rimini and san marino.

Sirolo, Portonovo, the giant caves with stalagmites, siballini mountains, ascoli piceno, the hill top village in Grottamare.

Factory shops Prada/Tods (and others).

Autostrada is great, and the coast road is pretty good too. The trains are fast and cheap so if you fancy going a bit further it’s possible too.

Urbino also for the renaissance art.

Enjoy!

Some good suggestions above.

Heading North, Ravenna is not too far and a wonderful old city. Mini Florence.

South of you is Ancona, also the Conero national park.

Ancona city is a better day out than you might expect for a transport hub. Some good Roman ruins, great views from the top of the hill and nice restaurants in the piazze and near the railway station.

I'm planning to do the whole of the east coast by train, stopping off at different places for the day or couple of nights.
