A fairly reliable indicator is your maternal grandfather.

How was he?
Is that not a myth?

I hope it’s not a myth. My maternal grandfather had a full head of hair at 96 when he died. My dad however was rocking the old ‘egg in the straw’ look in his thirties.

I’m late forties now and thought I’d escaped it. Indeed, through lockdown I was cutting my own hair and never noticed any loss/thinning. But about a year ago I noticed thinning on top. It was a bit of a shock to be honest. I had long hair at the time which was making it look worse. So I cut it short and styled it differently and I think I’m ok for now.

Nobody else claims to have noticed, but then they would say that wouldn’t they…

I don't think it is a myth.

Look around your own family, ask your friends. But, what does it matter, I have a good head of hair, but I wouldn't be bothered if I lost it.

Glad you're happy with a slap head.
There's a fair bit of ground between being happy with going bald and it being a death sentence to most.

I’d recommend a comb-over
Stick it down with some oil
Nobody will notice

If you're stressing over going thin on top then take charge and get rid of the rest yourself. You're still a man, proceed with ego intact and remember a woolly hat for the winter nights.

It says a lot that the only PH smiley with hair is this one: silly and the only one fighting it is this one: yikes

When I hit 40 I saw I was thinning on top. I felt I had two choices:

1. Fly to Switzerland and end my life. With my family there to mourn me as I mourned my hair.

2. Shave it off and carry on with my life with this really having no impact.

Not a hard choice obviously I chose option 1 and am now typing this from beyond the grave.

I’m happier being dead than bald and Hell is infinitely preferable to having no hair.

I’ve been taking finasteride for about 10 years now, it totally stopped my hair receding. My dad has also been taking it for the same amount of time with the same results.

However, my brother tried it and it made him feel depressed, so it’s not risk free.

I get it from simple online pharmacy which doesn’t work out very expensive.
This. Oral Finasteride and minoxidil (both also available for topical application) read up on the potential all be it rare side effects.

I stopped taking it when we started trying for a family but don't suspect you'll have that problem. Available cheaply with an online script.

Better this than the other option of surgery. Loosing your hair either bothers you or it doesn't, more power to those who decide to shave it off. For others there are options.

Another in the shave it off camp.

When I noticed thinning I started with a 1 all over, then as it thinned more a 0.5 for a month. Took a mach3 to it last night, walked into work this morning and no-one noticed. Everyone has their own problems to worry about, no-one gives a Donald duck.

Razored slap heads don't look good on anyone. Bald heads resemble cue balls, eggs or a bloody turtle head. Especially those who don't have a beard either. MPB is a terrible affliction but at least have a horse shoe and a beard, anything but nothing
Did a bald guy sleep with your missus or something?

Can I carry the horse shoe in my pocket or do I have to nail it to my head?

Sounds like you prefer hairy men.

It'd be a boring world if we all fancied the same people.

You sound like you have serious issues. Do you suffer from depression, anxiety or anything like that? I'm asking as it genuinely sounds like you are blowing issues like hair loss out of all proportion, but only in your mind.

You have to remember that almost no one cares if you have hair or not. It's just a small part of what you look like, along with height, weight, skin colour, teeth, eyes, and clothing.

I lost my hair as I approached 40, so I got the clippers out and shaved my head to a No 1 all over.

No one ever thinks of themselves as 'a bald man' and it can be somewhat worrying, but when you do shave it all off, you suddenly realise that absolutely nothing happens. Nothing. No one cares. The world doesn't end. People don't look at you any different. No one says anything.

You also realise that you look at yourself in the mirror and think "I don't know what all the fuss was about"

It then becomes totally liberating, and one less thing to worry about. You just forget about it after that.

Far more important are ordinary things like: Keeping yourself in good shape (i.e not being overweight), being well dressed, and splashed with a decent aftershave, keeping your teeth clean and in good order, and keeping your stubble and beard neatly trimmed (or shaven). These things will have far more of a bearing of what others think when they look at you or meet you, than if you have hair or not.

I'm quite proud of having testosterone, 60 year old blokes with a full head of hair look creepy to me. Definitely wouldn't let them baby sit.
