RB always run their two drivers equally. The problem is that Max is the best of the best and he makes the other drivers look slow. They'd have to take the kamikazi route of employing Hammo as the second driver to test Max, but no TP would ever volunteer for that headache.

Environment at RB, according to folk who work there, fantastic. Atmosphere at Merc - depressed. smile
Afternoon Christian H wink

Maybe quite a big hint from Toto there during the interview that Antonelli is going to be the Mercedes driver for next year?

So no seat for Sainz with Toto. He’s running out of options.

Before I thought the only possible good seat for Sainz would be Mercedes, but now it seems that Red Bull must get Sainz. Verstappen won’t think twice to jump ship if the RBPT engine becomes a dog.

I get the feeling that Toto wants to offer Sainz a one-year deal, but the Spaniard isn’t interest in that and will likely get a better offer from Red Bull. Toto wants to leave his decision as late as possible, but he’s not got the best available ‘25 drive while Red Bull stil haven’t confirmed Perez - and Horny will happily keep the Mexican strung along if it upsets Toto, as he has few other options outside Red Bull.

I still think Sainz is the only option for either Mercedes and Red Bull.
What did all those kids do this weekend. None of them are lewis or max mk2.

Autosport think that positions will start being finalised soon.

Sainz is the key to the market with a long term, big money offer from Audi that expires over the Monaco weekend. Sainz doesn't want to commit to it whilst their are possible seats at Mercedes or Red Bull. However, Red Bull are likely to extend Perez's contract and Mercedes are only targeting Verstappen with Antonelli their fall back position. So there is a high chance that Sainz will opt for Audi but if he declines Audi then they will opt for one of Ocon or Gasly.

Bottas is talking to Williams about replacing Sargeant but has also has offers from Haas and Alpine. Bearman is strongly connected to Haas but Gene Haas is unsure about taking a rookie after Schumacher & Mazepin in 2021. Other drivers being considered at Haas include Magnussen, Ocon and Zhou.

I really hope sainz lands something at the front. He's proving himself, I used to think Charles was the better driver but my opinion has really changed. Would be a shame to see him at a team further back... assuming audi aren't at the sharp end.

If you are running a top F1 team you would have to be very uncurious and narrow minded to not want an experience f1 winner from a top rival team if available.
Toto is brilliant at stringing the gormless press along. Chances of him putting an anonymous f2 driver in the car instead of tapping Sainz experience is remote. I bet its a battle with red bull that want the same incase Max does a runner.
Puts Horner in a stronger position if max decides he want a 50% share of the team or some other outlandish demand.

Audi will take 5 years to be competitive - look at how long it took RB to get to the front - and how long a full factory team in the form of Alpine have failed to get to the front...
