I deeply want an F-Pace SVR to add to my other V8 but that means selling my Jaguar XJ which is the most comfortable and relaxing car I've ever driven.

Just two things are stopping me pulling the trigger:

Will it be as comfortable as the Jag
With 110 mile a day commute will it cripple me financially or will it eek out 30mpg on a run (XJ does 45-47mpg on a run)

On the plus side the F-pace sounds better, is far more practical and is a lot smaller than the XJ - like it might actually fit into a parking space!

It's going to happen, but might be at end of current contract when my next commute is known!
I don’t have one of these but a very good friend of mine has the less powerful but still bonkers ‘S’ with the 3.0 turbo engine.

It has very hard suspension which I guess is to stop its tall body falling over around corners. It’s not comfortable when cruising.

Your XJ will always be more comfortable than one of these. It doesn’t have to fight as hard to stop the body rolling. Nor does it have a tall frontal area to fight the air friction. Which will affect the fuel consumption. My mate gets an overall average of 20mpg, 25 on a gentle run.
That’s interesting I thought these would be rather comfortable. Would you say they stiffer/ worse than a hot hatch, C63/m3 etc?

Comfort is not a problem for me at all. It is a great cruiser but also a fun nutter if you want that. If you are concerned about fuel efficiency then on the motorway I get around 25-27 ish and around town 18-19. The sound is epic in dynamic. These cars have space and comfort and grunt. Very happy with mine.
Thanks, my other V8 is a 2019 mustang which is surprisingly comfortable and on the occasions I drive that to the office It's good for 35mpg. If it averages 23-24 overall then I'd be happy as there's little nicer sounding than a V8.

Despite the XJ's size it's actually not very useful at lugging stuff, paddleboards, bike and even holiday luggage don't fit in the boot as the seats don't fold so the practicailty boost is a win worth the mpg drop!

Thanks, that's interesting as like others i would have thought they were farly comfortable just not armchair like like the XJ is!

Isn't the 3.0 also supercharged? That was on my shortlist too but listening to them side by side at local dealer the 3.0 got binned quite quickly wink

Is this the last chance to get Jaguar's legendary 5.0 Supercharged V8?

It must be given that the Range Rover / Land Rover is currently ditching it for the BMW 4.4 turbo V8.

I'd love to have the F-Pace, but funds won't allow. I've recently purchased a 2014 XF Sportwagon with the same V8 instead. The V8 is awesome, even if the MPG isn't.

This just goes to show what a mess Jaguar has become. Don't think they've launched a new car in something like 6 or 7 years. Bet heavily on diesel just as diesel headed south. Have now supposedly bet heavily on electric, just as that market is suffering. That said, given that we are promised a new car in 2025, there seems to be precious little noise about it - no design studies, prototype leaks, anything really. Hard to see them getting anything to market in the next 18 months.

I fear they're just going to disappear. JLR are making so much from the LR bit - what do they need Jaguar for ?
Actually, they've just announced they're carrying-in with ICE SUVs alongside the BEVs!

The wheels on the BEV bandwagon are slowly falling off.

But yes, one does have sympathy for JAAAG - bet they now rue the day they cancelled the not-at-all-like-a-Bentley XJ and its flexible architecture...

May I point you in the direction of a thread on here that deserves more appreciation.... I'm sure you'll be able to find it yourself - it contains many an issue with an F-Pace and an Ingenium Diesel.

I never understood the the “Performance “ SUV market until I drove the SVR just over a year ago. Surprised myself just how much I liked it. Had I not decided to jump off the corporate ladder and take a year out I would have bought it.
Had better book myself in to get my brain removed so I can start looking for one.
Same for me, I thought they were pointless but the SVR is epic. I'll be driving something less desirable to the light fingered fraternity for a while now though.
To be honest I still find most of them pointless but the F Pace and the particularly SVR is brilliant. Such a likeable car regardless of being an SUV or not.
I drove a Macan S yesterday and while perfectly pleasant I would still choose an F Pace.
Sorry yours got taken. Fortunately for me I live in rural Somerset so crime not such an issue.

SVR the perfect daily for me, quick, sounds superb, not overly massive, relatively discreet.
20 months and 20,000 miles in mine, and I agree ;-)

Quite possibly. Although the new engine shows the old stager has not perhaps moved with the game.

It's not like the supercharged V8 was ever accused of lacking power or anything, but the difference between the engines in ostensibly similar cars is jaw-dropping.

I've twice seen 30, but long runs usually mid/late 20s....but I'm not gentle with the throttle.

All I can say is, it's worth it ;-)

Compared to an M3, C63 or even the Giulia QF I had before, these are like limo comfort.

What an inappropriate vehicle to use to commemorate the anniversary. In isolation a good car if you like a SUV.

Lovely but unless they've overhauled their security I won't be having another since my SVR got lifted last month from my drive.

That's with both keys in a steel box in an aluminium lined drawer several yards from the front door. s!
I understand that the latest security updates prevent this type of attack. Currently being rolled out to older vehicles too, not sure of the cutoff.

That's encouraging as I'm notoriously light footed in my cars, lifetime average of mustang is close to 25mpg vs 22.5mpg quoted so bodes well.

First thing first though I'm not allowed to buy myself a second V8 motor until my wife gets a newer car (currently an i3 rex that I love!) and she's eyed up a mini clubman jcw with the £306bhp B47 motor in it.

None of your posts offer anything positive (not even funny), perhaps you might say nothing in future for the good of all.

They stand out in my mind for their particular low IQ post to the M8 Comp page.

A single car length at the 1/2 mile is pretty far from jaw-dropping?

He even says that in the real world ithe difference is next to nothing, the new one got away a little faster because it has launch control which is a proper top trump bellends feature.

Superior aerodynamcs were likely to have been the difference at 100 MPH+ when the new car started to pull away rather than engine power and torque.

I'd give up that very marginal performance advantage over 100MPH for the more pleasant driving characteristics of a supercharged engine myself, I'm very sad they're going away even if the new one should be more efficient and have more headroom.

I don't think that particular comment stands out, TBH. Having had a look back at the posting history, all of it's comments seem equally asinine.
