I got a Passat 4 motion 2.8 V6 initially for the dogs, but then that got written off so replaced it with an A6 2.7T Quattro. Dogs approved of both.

My old disco TDi. For a third of the budget. Spend the rest on something that won't be trashed by dogs! Mine has some off road bits for a bit of muddy fun and you don't have to worry about the dogs getting carpets dirty, there are none!

I have a v70 awd which we bought specifically for carting the dog about. Its been ideal, plenty of room for the dog in the back and one of the most comfortable cars I've travelled in.

We use the Passat Estate for the dogs. Tdi, and big enough to get a Newfoundland in the boot.

Any estate will do if you're not going off road . If you're likely to be going to more remote places on muddy single track roads , green lanes etc then Shogun / Surf / Disco .

Another vote for a W124 mercedes - you'll get a lovely one for £3k. Freelandfer not the right piece of kit; the boots tiny, its a high load area and - if like us - you get the 2.5 V6, they drink petrol (the same MPG as our E63)

It's a great excuse to buy an old land rover, not a freelander, but a proper old landy
I set off to buy one until the dog suggested that travelling in the back of an air controlled suspension top of the range E class was likely to be comfier than a leaf spring landy. I took my coat off ...

Volly V70 should have sprung mesh curtains built into the rear seats that unroll and clip into the roof.
Not obvious until you have used one.

Suggested once already, Forrester. Tough as old boots, dead reliable and nippy enough if you get the turbo.

Of course doubles up as a Tip car / Tow car and laugh in our winter snows...
Exactly.
Our 2 Great Danes and German Shepherd fit (almost) comfortably in the back of the Toyota Hilux and there is still room for 4-5 adults.
