Main Dealers - Still As Useless As Ever
Discussion
Dad was an independent car dealer so I grew up with a distrust of main dealers which was re-enforced by my experiences when I had company cars - useless service which also costs a fortune
I've avoided them with my cars as far as possible but the local Mazda dealer was supposed to be good for alignment so I took my MX5 in and they smashed the front spoiler against a kerb
I've finally been forced to use them again for a Mercedes airbag replacement on my wife's car
It's taken probably 20 calls over 4 months to finally get the part in stock and an appointment - for 8.30 this morning
I checked the car in with their self service check in as there was no one in reception - and received an email to confirm
I then sat in the waiting area for 50 mins - wondering how it can take this long for a simple airbag swap - then my phone rings "Hi it's Mercedes are you still bringing your car in today"
So they haven't even looked at it yet despite being booked in as the earliest appointment to avoid delays
Nice to see they're still as capable as ever
I have no idea how any of them are still in business

McLaren Guildford (Bell & Colvill) just serviced my 720S Spider and it has come back running like a dog.

It stalls at junctions, which then engages the handbrake and neutral, which makes it undriveable as someone will drive into the back of it before long.
Told the dealer they need to come and collect it, but they're busy so they can't for two weeks.
Maybe I'm unreasonable but I would expect them to collect it and fix it immediately. https://youtube.com/shorts/XwIEaMTrelM?feature=sha...

If someone needs to work overtime, so be it
That's what I would do for my customers and I charge a hell of a lot less

I don’t see why the garage has to be vat registered anyway. How is that some measure of quality? Is it enforceable? it sounds like absolute bks (as a criteria)
To stop your mate knocking up a fake receiptVAT reg is £85k - a single guy at £50 an hour supplying NO parts would hit that in a year

The cars gave to be diagnostically connected whilst the repairs are carried out, with a before and after fault code check and the campaign filled out in the service book if applicable. A writeup needs to be carried out with the car present and they are legally obliged to carry out a health check.
I get you’re impatient, but at least have some common sense and realise it’s not just a case of throwing an airbag at the steering wheel. It sounds like some people wind themselves up before they even walk through the doors.
Impatient - It took around 6 months for them to finally manage to book it in !I get you’re impatient, but at least have some common sense and realise it’s not just a case of throwing an airbag at the steering wheel. It then took them almost an hour to realise I was waiting in reception, despite booking it in via their system

Well why did you just sit there for nearly an hour, that is just daft, didn't you realise something wasn't right and somebody needed a prod? Talk about subbing out responsibility for everything to someone else.
As it says in the original OP I checked in electronically and put my keys into the key safe as there was no one at the deskI was booked for the first job of the morning, arrived bang on time, filled in the electronic forms... do you expect me to hold his hand too ?
I assumed their systems worked and the job was being done !
