Considering moving the Caterham on as due to lack of basic security (ie you can’t lock it), I’m not getting the use out of I’d like to…..

There’s a few things caught my eye….

Cayman s- relatively free of borkage potential?

Elise - have driven a few but not an event

TVR - well, why not ? chimp or Tamora ?

MX5- meh, just not a car I’d look back at , despite the two

S2000 - good ones are pricey now, but prob to old really

What would you suggest ?
I’m curious about your reason for moving on from the Caterham. How is security an issue when you can take the steering wheel off? If you want to lock some valuables away couldn’t you a small hard suitcase in the boot and chain it to the roll cage or something?

Elise for me. You can get a Honda powered one for 25k. I get coming from a Caterham you might want something different.

I'd like a Cayman but it's more of a fun daily in my book.

Z4M / Z4M Coupe might be a good shout.

They have been described as the German TVR...

My wife would in heaven with Vette, and I’m a fan, but not with my own cash….
I think a vette is likely one of the more sensible things. Robust. Simple. Unlikely to depreciate much. Children will point and wave.

Its more the fact I can’t for example, take it to a race meeting and leave it in the car park….

Again, why not?

Sorry not being argumentative, I daily drove a Caterham for 5 years and never had any security concerns!

Yes, I'd say Honda, Duratec or tuned K Elise. If you want more 'event' adding get some Corbeau seats, harnesses and removable wheel. £25k should get you something.

Just the job

Well, how about the time I left it in Tesco’s car park for 10 minutes and came back to find some random sitting in it ?

That won't happen often, and not at all if you have side screens put a half hood or tonneau cover on (e.g. if you were leaving it parked for more than an hour). And especially at a petrolhead event like a race meet.

A couple of years ago I had a Caterham which lived on the street in central London for 2 years. Insurance was £300 per year! Factory immobiliser and a removable wheel.

ETA to add almost nothing can match a Caterham for the smiles they bring from the general public. Maybe a Morgan?

Yes, that's exactly the list I've just been through. S2 111r and Exige were under consideration too.

To be honest, that one is probably a bit too much of an event for me at 280bhp! I've only drive a 150-160bhp S1, and that was more than adequate.

The F-Type is the nearest you’ll get to a modern TVR.

I’ve owned 2 Cerbera’s and 2 F-Types. Comparatively both make you smile but one is far more reliable, cheap to run and has a few gadgets.

The other is an emotional experience when it comes to up keep costs, has no safety features (ABS) and as Peter Wheeler said, the long travel on the accelerator is your traction control. Even in the damp a TVR is a handful and requires your full attention!

A typical F-Type annual service is a few hundred £’s. My Cerbera’s next gave me change from £1k for a service, and that was many years ago.

Have a look at the F-Type cabs.
