Funny story for you that could have been potentially horrendous for me.

My brother and his partner had a look round the car earlier. They (and I) were surprised to learn she could start the car without the key in. I didn't know it had keyless start so I thought that's a bonus, I suppose. Though the key is tiny by modern standards and I couldn't believe it had a transmitter in there. I had a bit of a mess around with it when I got home and realised the car would start without the key anywhere near. Oh st, the immobiliser is fked or something. I even removed the little grip on the ignition that allows keyless starts (you turn it as if you were turning a key).

At one attempt at trying to start it without the key, the dash said 'no card'. Then it dawned on me. The car came with a little Honda-branded card in the glovebox that had batteries in it. I had no idea what it was so just left it there. Turns out that it is the transmitter for the keyless start and because it was in the glovebox under a load of other stuff, the signal wasn't strong enough all the time for the car to start on every attempt, hence the 'no card' message.

So if you buy a Honda and it comes with one of these, do not leave it in the car like a moron:

Sidenote: also do not use peasant petrol. I made that mistake when I stopped on the way home from collection and was wondering why the fuelling was so sketchy. All sorted with some V-Power.

Yup; JDM Honda's need 98RON and above ideally....

I even ran my Japanese import BMWs on premium fuel only as that's what they'll have been used to in Japan

Peace of mind etc

Don't recall seeing anything in my Euro R like that, just got 2 normal Honda keys with the usual buttons on for the immobiliser etc.Glad you found the transmitter thingy though! You say theres a twisty bit on the ignition,be interested to see what that looks like if you get chance.
And yeah you're right,V Power all the way for JDM ECU's,although I did have to put some BP Ultimate in it the other week.

No questions from me but do want to add that it looks brilliant, I've always had a soft spot for these - will be watching with interest to see how much of a difference those mods make.

Enjoy! cool

It's this:

So you can turn the ignition with no key, but only.if you have the card. The car is also keyless access, so it's a wee button on the handle as you see on most modern cars. So you either need a key or the card but don't need both. It all makes sense now.

Reminds me a bit of my old Civic which required you to turn a key *and* also press a button to start.

No wind up, I have a 2006 Mustang and the side mirrors are fixed but ones I have seen for sale in Japan have folding ones (by law there) I read somewhere they swapped out the standard fixed mirrors with ones from the Honda Accord smile

Awesome car, worth it for the seats alone.

Been having some intermittent issues with the sound system so had it down at a local car audio shop today. Couple of speakers breaking/broken so getting fronts and rears replaced with some new Alpine units next week. Worth saying that TGT have been very accommodating with any niggles I've had with the car.

Always nice to get goodies through the post! Lovely.I've started a thread on my own car,a very long winded one from the beginning, well this is my third year of ownership. Good there's a couple of live threads going on these cars, gives people an insight into them as they're certainly not a common sight, and great for me as I can flick to yours and see how you're getting on!
By the way I don't have any of that 'modern' keyless witchcraft on mine, just the normal poke-the-key-in-and -twist setup laugh

Aye yeah I've been keeping an eye on yours too, good stuff.

The keyless thing is totally pointless, the card has been chucked to the back of the cupboard never to be seen again probably.

Coilovers going on on the 31st!

I have used TGT in the past but I did feel these issues should have been sorted prior to handover.

I had no major issues but annoying stuff that should have been resolved as part of the prep process.

Given they are in the arse end of nowhere, it's not possible to just pop over and get this stuff fixed after you have taken delivery.

Fair enough, we all have our own opinions/experiences.

In this case, the stereo worked when I picked the car up although yes, they/I could have picked up that a rear speaker wasn't working. I'm replacing four speakers so they're in matching pairs but only two are faulty and TGT are paying for both of those, no questions asked. I'm not sure any other used car dealer would be so obliging. And ultimately that's what it is; a 21 year old used car so I don't expect it to be 'as new' and without it's quirks.

Please take that in the polite tone it was meant to be in, I'm not being snarky smile

Well, good news is that the squeaking has stopped. Can only think that the waxoyl or whatever it is they used was causing it on the suspension components and it's now dried. Or the bushes they replaced have 'bedded in' if such a thing even happens. Or they lubed up some bushes while they were replacing others and that's settled in now. Who knows, who cares.

On that note, had a good look under the car today and the treatment they've done looks thorough. That said, before the end of summer I'm going to take it to the chap who did my MX5, just to give it a double check.

Put a new battery in today as the old one was of unknown age. Doesn't look particularly new:

I had a bit of a feeling I might have needed a code for the radio afterwards but I didn't which was nice. But I did need some longer bolts to get the connectors on the terminals properly as they new ones are a fair bit bigger.
