In the end I went with a 104k 2008 535d M-sport E61 with all the right toys and trim for £7000. They really are fantastic and so much car for the money.

Well no, because £11k for a 17 year old moderately warm(ish) BMW estate is clearly ludicrous pricing to the general population.

It was a Jap import 530i M Sport and 550i M Sport I was considering before I bought my previous F01 - both sold within a day of being listed and hours away from me, so unfortunately no way I could move on them quick enough...

But would have another Jap import BMW in a heartbeat - an F11 535i would be a great car biggrin

Anyone know the deal with the automatic shifter on OPs car? I didn’t think that design was a thing back in 2007. I know for certain the E9x didn’t get this shifter so I guess it’s just a 5 series thing.

Excluding DCTs, I thought all E gen BMWs had this ugly thing -

What to make of it? More common issues I believe..

The OPs car is an LCI with the later box IIRC; so it got an updated shifter for DCT

They came quite late on; a lot of the Jap import Ex range cars have them

It's an LCI box with a non SAT shifter.

It's an LCI box with a non SAT shifter.
The 550i auto kept the same box with just the updated shifter. Some people swear by a gearbox remap. I found mine worked a lot better after a little refresh with new fluid.
