That's a beautiful looking car. The late LSEs are the ultimate Classic RR.
Best of luck with the restoration.

Great stuff. My dad had a 2 door RRC in the '90s and we spent a lot of time working on it together. We once bought a 4 door one for £50, swapped the alloys on it for the steel wheels on our car and sold it on for £50 to one of my school friends to drive around on his farm.

That it is for sure! Good things with anything green oval is somebody has already done it. A million times over. So, there a guide and a YouTube video out there for everything.

It was a LOT of effort last time, but slowly but surely I managed all I needed when I did the defender.

Wow, that's epic! Love the fact that the body comes clean off, I imagine it was still a fairly significant undertaking!

In for the updates... What sort of timescale are you reckoning to turn this around?

Owned since mid august. Not had too much time to spend on it. I’d say I’m about 40 ish hours in at this point. The body off bit is really just a series of very rusty fasteners under the car and then taking off everything that’s bolted to the inner wings, labelling and storing

Then Friday, my mate the landy beard and I spent about 6 ish hours finishing ‘the rest’ like wiring, gear lever and hand brake cables, steering joint etc etc and lift it off.

I would hazard a guess that the first time I did it (defender project) it took me 50% longer to this stage. Maybe a tad more.

Timescale wise is tricky. The last one took me 10 months but I had 2 months working on it a lot because I was serving a 3 month notice at work.

I’ve a young family so very rarely get eve/ weekend time on it. But I have a weird job that’s very ‘lumpy’, so sometimes I can get 15+ spare daytime hours in a week and sometimes I can go 3 months without barely a moments spare time.

For this reason I never put a deadline on it. However, last time I must have spent at least 30 hours on an angle grinder/ drill with wire brushes cleaning up parts. I shall not make that mistake again, all the big stuff like suspension arms, axels, calipers and hopefully the chassis will be sent out for blasting.

Still in for this one.

Slow but steady progress for it.
It’s good you have a welder for a mate. Will definitely keep him busy.

Spent the last couple of days making a body skate out of some hefty box section.

The four mounts above the castors pickup on the middle 4 body mounts of the shell. The front extension is purely to hold the wing structure in place and was made on the car today to provide a template to line up the new wings when they are fitted.

No updates on this for a while. Probably the rest of October. Kids are off school next week, a short trip with the mrs after and then a work trip upcoming too.

Next update will hopefully include lots of shiney new metal. hehe

Wow - that body skate is a work of art!

This thread looks like it will be fantastic - and I don't even like any LR product. laugh
