No target dates…. Ever! My work is too ‘lumpy’ for that, setting a date will only lead to disappointment.

That said, my disco 4 daily has its MoT due next august and I’m fairly sure that since the last one the rear upper arm ball joints are on the way out.

These are notoriously difficult to do and so I’ll need the lift free and ideally a backup car to take the pressure off getting it done quickly. wink

Some nice shiny new metal arrived

Which was good because a lot of this car is various shades of brown

It’s now, at least, sat on its new skate

However there’s plenty more to sort

Had a slow week at work this week, so I tacked in a rear brace and set about the rear cross member and boot floor:-

Good work.
Just fetched mine back from a bit of tarting up. Now to decide what to do with it.

As for front end rebuild, yep been there, all good fun. Have you got much of a bulkhead left, I didn't, had to be reinstated.
They really are the worst build quality!

The footwells are in a poor state but the rest of it is ok. There’s a bit of cutting/ blending in new required but not loads

A lot of progress over the last month or so on this one. Firstly, some more metal had come out….

And some more has gone back in:

The boot floor itself was very difficult to work with. For the LSE you have to buy a standard panel with an extension panel and join them together.

The metal is so thin and I damaged, fettled, repaired and patched but got it hashed together in the end. I’m not happy with the finish here, but at the end of the day it’s strong and won’t be visible once I’ve protected the underside and the carpets are back in.

Tomorrow dom the fabulous fabricator is coming for two days of hacking at the footwells and front panels. I shall report back.

I don't know. it's on my list to research. The aftermarket panel doesn't, however the old panel looked like it rotted around such a hole!

I couldn’t do any more than stick metal together badly until this project. I’m getting better, but I still make huge mistakes and I have to grind a lot! hehe

What a great project. I bought a P38 Range Rover in April and so far it’s been pretty well behaved. New air bags, shocks and bushes. Did the usual HVAC blend motors and heater matrix myself and painted a few scrapes. It’s Epsom green which is surprisingly easy to paint match with rattle cans and I’m very pleased with the finish. Surprisingly no rust anywhere and the chassis is solid. Unlike classics they don’t suffer with rot at all. Watching with interest!

Just remember the old saying.

“Grinder and paint, makes me the welder I ain’t” hehe

A looooong day in the garage today with my pal dom. However we made a serious leap forward today, completing quite a list of jobs including:

Both front wing assemblies
Slam panel
Bottom bracing
Bulkhead body mounts
Finished spot welding the rear floor
Fabricated a new rear lip for the tailgate seal
Few more patches in places in the rear

I reckon about 30-40 more hours and I will be ready to get it off for whatever treatment I’m giving the underside and then time for paint. biggrin

Only just seen this and bookmarked love a RR rebuild, if I only could work a screwdriver without ending up in A&E I’d love to do something like this.
