I've just bought one... I have no self control at all biggrin

It'll be an interesting range session to hit a 55g shafted game improvement 7i, a 95g shafted players distance 7i and a 115g shafted blade 7i. I tend to work best when the difference is felt back to back, which will hopefully happen.
Hahaha, likewise! What have you bought?

While I was adding things to my watchlist I got an offer of £32 for this Srixon Z-Forged 7 iron - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/276408324281. It felt rude to say no laugh

Range session next week?
Haha, I'm almost starting to feel like an enabler of the shiny bladey goodness hehe

I was actually going to suggest picking up a Srixon Z Forged as they are reckoned to be some of the most forgiving blades out there - Wilson and Nike are up there as well but you can't go too far wrong with a blade - unless it's one of those Cobra RFs of course smile

5 club competition tomorrow off the Whites on the Queens at Gleneagles.

Putter.

Driver or 3 Wood?

5 Wood or 7 Wood?

8 Iron

PW, 50 Degree or 54 Degree?

I'm leaning towards 3 Wood, 7 Wood, 8 Iron, 54 Degree and Putter. scratchchin
I think 5 is too many for a restricted club comp, 3 max, ideally 2.

Interesting choice Leithen.

Two woods? A 3W and 7W feel like they’re really similar, but then I also don’t play a 7W so maybe they’re reasonably different when actually playing?

I feel like I’d go 5W, 6i, 8i, 54 degree, putter.
I'm not a long hitter, so the 7W, either hit full or with a little taken off fills the longer iron distances quite well for me. I don't have a hybrid these days either, so it's useful with a half decent lie in the rough too.

It's tempting to take the driver as it is so easy to hit. The 3W off the tees requires more concentration (which isn't a bad thing) and can produce a slice if miss hit. The 5W would bridge the gap, but I fear I'm not long enough (max 200yds) with it off the tees.

It's a great fun dilemma! biggrin
Driver. Always driver. Get the ball as close to the hole as possible off the tee.

Sounds geeky, but if you know how far you hit driver, work out roughly where you should be on every hole after a half decent tee shot then pick other clubs to suit, also what works best on par 3s.

Last 4 club comp I entered I took driver, 6 and 9 iron and a putter. Scored the same as I normally would. If I was to add another club it would be my 54° wedge.

Still its shown me what I need to do to shoot lower scores, so a good day overall imo.
To be fair, it really sounds like you're making the right choices, and then the execution occasionally goes awry. That's not a great position to be in, although I guess you wouldn't have got this good in the first place with bad decision making hehe

I'm a big advocate for picking up a second hand bladed 7 iron or the like and just using it for practice at the range, they can be brilliant for practicing the strike itself, and you can usually get old fitting clubs for nice and cheap.
Now I'm looking for any excuse to buy a bladed 7 iron. On payday. Thanks bodhi biggrin

Im a 24 handicapper and bought MP 53 Mizuno irons. I get better feel from these, starting to understand when I hit a toe / heel strike.

I also did a little test with these vs Sub70 699 irons and I was a lot more consistent with the Mizuno's. With the Sub70's I would get the occasional ball that just flew and would go 10-20 yards further than the rest.

Plus as my handicap comes down I dont need to change my irons and can just stick with these.

Played at Farleigh today - Red and Yellow course - Managed to match my personal best of 1 over par!! A few missed opportunities to finally make par but really happy with the way my game went

Shot the 9 holes on the Red with all 4s = 36 Level par smile

First proper driving range session of the year on Sunday, didn't want to be completely surprised when I get the first round in this year.

Typically trusty 5 wood off the deck...

Ha yes, well I suppose the proof will be in the pudding, I'm hoping it will sort out my inability to take the putter head back and through without deviation.

Love seeing people splash out on golf stuff, but crikey, that's a beastly looking thing!

Best putting advice is Bob Rotella - Putting out of your mind.

Once you realise that you're not expected to make too many putts outside 6 feet or so, you can just practise being very good at weight of putt, making sure that 3 putts are very unlikely. You will hole some, and you'll miss some, but the only ones you really shouldn't miss, are 3 footers.

Just finished a range session down at The Chase, and must admit I'm becoming a big fan of TrackMan Range - not as many challenges or games as TopTracer but seems far more accurate and I like the summary it gives you after a practice session. This was today's:

Not entirely sure how I managed to be more consistent with a 3 and 4 iron than any other club in the bag, but there we are - welcome to my golf hehe

That dispersion is pretty good! What’s purple & yellow? 3W & 2/3 iron? A 5 or even 7 wood could be worth a try? Easier to hit / control & might eliminate the need for the both of those two & help with left to right misses?

Playing PGA Harding park on Saturday, cannot wait now!

Purple was 3 Wood and yellow was my 3 Hybrid believe it or not, with green and light blue my 3 and 4 iron. Only real concern with the 3 Wood was the one over to the left which was a bit of a hook, but standing too far away from the ball - slightly more concerned about my inability to hit a hybrid straight!

Good to hear you managed to organise a game over in San Fran, and not a bad place to do it at all! Still struggling to get over the fact it's a muni!

Enjoy and be sure to report back smile

See why you love your 3w now smile

Thoughts on Tiger's clothing line?

Expensive, tasteful though, and top end apparently. Hats are priced nicely in comparison to everything else.

I dont really get the Tiger clothing line. For me the logo looks a bit naff, and never really understood why they decided to spell it Sun Day Red?

I would have thought being backed by Taylormade they would have come up with something better.

Tiger / Sun Day Red are walking into a really tough and saturated marketplace. Loads of high-end stuff out there already.

The Yanks will lap it up

I've got a few different makes and there's really nothing in it. Some of my Adidas stuff is much better quality than more 'premium' brands
