There’s only a few on there that haven't been on mainstream channels
I guess they all passed me by.
Well the beauty of modern broadcasting is you can watch them all right now as they are available on catch up/ streaming services.
Indeed, I'll have to add them to my watch list smile

There seems a fair bit of a tinge of snobbery around some of the condemnation. It's not cutting edge comedy, not cutting edge anything really, and I certainly don't view it in the same light as other members of the family, but will resolutely not criticise anyone for watching it or liking the same. Gauche, banal, touches of that everyday weirdness that occur in extended family and friends lives, yes that's also what makes it too.

It makes me wonder if perhaps some folks feel awkward and resort to denigration to deal with the issue that certain sections fit a little too close for comfort, e.g. the enthusiastic discussion about the "best motorway services area." Face facts, there have been quite a number of threads on here on that very same subject.
Many of my tastes and interests may be considered a little high brow by Joe Public, but I like Gavin & Stacey. I'm not sure how people could actively dislike it or not find it amusing at all.

There is a lot of terrible comedy out there. I would include the likes of Mrs Brown's Boys and Miranda in that category.

It is quite personal. Many did, but I never liked League of Gentlemen. I did wonder if there was an element of Emperor's New Clothes about that one
That's very fair comment, G&S not my favourite, but can see how people like it, also can just about understand (but only just about) why some don't like it, but maybe that says more about different tastes rather than good vs absolutely terrible.

I'd put G&S in a similar mould to Detectorists, gentle comedy which revolves around characterisation, touches here and there on real life, odd times a little bit uncomfortably close.

Genuine question, why do people find it hard to believe that others honestly don't find it that funny? smile

I'm sure there are people who find it difficult to believe that, for example, the Peep Show leaves me absolutely and utterly cold. So what.

There are very few outstanding examples at each end of the spectrum, whichever end of that spectrum you sit on a particular example, it's difficult to figure out why someone is at the other end, but they are so be it. The majority of shows are somewhere in the middle. Very rare to find something that is utterly brilliant from beginning to end, equally difficult to find something without a single item of merit. Which is the point.

i find it hard that someone who doesn't like something watches it to the end,it is not like they are being forced to watch something they don't like, well unless they are married.

Some seem to struggle to understand that different people like different things. Funny for one person is not funny to for someone else.

Probably none of us because we are all old farts who think everything should be like the 2 Ronnies.
Speak for yourself there DoubleD, I’d rather shut my fingers in the car door than watch them, but Morecambe and Wise were even worse IMO.
I watched Gavin and Stacey, as my wife wanted to see it, it wasn’t cr&p, but I wouldn’t rush to watch another one of them.
My wife’s brother, his wife, and my FIL were here for Christmas, and wanted to watch Mrs. Brown’s Boys, there’s only so much we can take, so we walked over to the Catholic club and tried to blot Mrs. Brown out.

There are times when I feel grateful for the family and in-laws I have. Reading that prompted one of them.

I didn’t find it as funny as some others seemed to, maybe a couple of chuckles here and there...

If I’d not been with family I wouldn’t have watched it so you could argue I was forced to, short of sitting alone in another room on Christmas Day, that is.

Same here, my niece went to her room to watch it as she thought (correctly) that grandparents would talk to much during it and she'd miss it biggrin The rest of its watched it but I didn't find it particularly funny. However I never watched the original series. I can easily see there were plenty of bits that would probably funny if you knew the characters, and even if fans didn't find it that funny there's a certain enjoyment from nostalgia and seeing what the characters might be like years later.

I won't be rushing to watch the original series though.

The chap that posted a list of what he thought funny stuff failed to mention Friday Night Dinner.

Just goes to show how comedy, art, music films etc are subjective to the individuals viewing them.

THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG.

I don't like Mrs Browns Boys and CANNOT stand that tt Michael McIntyre but other do like em.##

G&S was a nice bit of nostalgia, returning comedies are never funny-they lose the “now” that they were part of.

Anyone who thought the Only Fools reboots were funny has no idea what funny is either.

But sometimes it’s more than that, it’s just nice to catch up with characters you like.

Sorry I did indeed forget Friday Night Dinners which is a great example of a fantastic comedy show from the last 10 years that is IMO easily bettter than G&S

I freely admit that the Cordens are family friends, the father was friends with my father when they were both in the RAF MUSIC SERVICE . It is great to see someone that you know become successful.
I don't watch James Cordens stuff as I don't find him or his stuff funny .
I do admire the fact that he includes his family in many things and is very good with family friends that visit his shows .
The word from the family is there are no plans for more G+S .

Watched it again tonight with the wife as she wanted to catch up with the old series before. Got to be honest, we thought it was great after revisiting the old stuff again and I thought it was much better on the second viewing.

Good writing.

have to be honest I watched it with Mrs Iroc and was quite bored and unamused by it (Mrs Iroc loved it). Yes there were a couple of funny moments but over-all I much preferred Gino and co's Christmas special
Why do you call her Mrs Iroc?

Surely if you are going to do that, then logically she should be Mrs Fan?

That’s how I felt about it. Seeing Pete and Dawn was a highlight for me. G&S was always about the supporting characters more than the bland eponymous couple.
Not everything in it was ‘comedy gold’, but it was nice to end Xmas day in a pleasant nostalgia blanket with an old favourite.
