Somewhere warm and not long haul early October

This is on the same time my mrs. wants to go, so will have to look into this in more detail.

I saw a programne about Malta recently which said there were something like 30,000 classic cars on the island, so I was expecting something like Cuba with all sorts of old cars all over the place.

In a week of being there the oldest thing I saw was a beige Mk 4 Escort.

Just checked my pics from previous trips and the only one I seem to have photographed was a Skoda Estelle

I'd recommend Madeira. Nice weather, great food and lots to see and do.

Probably not quite as warm as some of the suggestions on here, but the Balkans/South East Europe is still 25-30 at the beginning of October unless your unlucky.

We were in Romania on the 5th to the 8th of October and that varied from 24-28 degrees. Albania at the end of November got to 21 degrees on a clear day.

We dont fancy the Canaries, can't explain why, but we are both totally ambivalent about the place.

We like to travel around and always hire a car, so Malta is a bit small, although my great grandfathers war memorial is on Malta.

Azores are too much of a faff once you are at the end of September, and we have done Madeira multiple times.

I went to Malta last October having previously been about 5 year previously, and there was a noticeable shift away from '80s European cars everywhere to '90s Japanese grey imports (mostly small Toyotas).

Like you say there are meant to be plenty of classic around, but they are keep as weekend cars rather than Cuban style daily drivers.

I did see a spotless Mk1 Transit being used as a work truck, so there is still plenty of interesting metal to spot.

How about Corsica? It's a little bit further north, but it's a very different island to Sardinia and well worth a visit. You need to pick your locations carefully as some parts of the island are very expensive.

Sardinia was getting a little too cool in the evenings at the end of September last year, I would expect Corsica to be similar

Corfu should still be nice in October, lost track how many times we've been to the North West of the island. It's our 'go to' holiday destination. Totally relaxed, great weather, great food and just a guaranteed nice time.

Looking forward to going back next month.

I was the same about Lanzarote - wasn't interested. However we visited last year. As a one off 'hit' it ticked all the boxes. We stayed at this place

The hotel was excellent,5 star, new, great spa, heated pools, location 10 mins from the airport, nice little resort, loads of restaurants, very clean and safe. We took the local buses and explored the Island rather than hire a car. Did the volcanoes - pretty spectacular scenery.

Menorca -very relaxed, did it loads of times with the kids now promising ourselves to go back to Cala Galdana . The weather could well be iffy in October.

Corfu - haven't been since 1988, just recall it being very rustic- hopefully not too much has changed.

Plenty both classic and nice modern cars however they are kept as weekend cars and if there is suspicion of rain no chance of them coming out.
Qawra on a Sunday morning in summer is a good place to go to as they have frequent car meets over there.

We have moved the date now looking at second week of September.

Looking for a quiet hotel with nice landscaping and a terrace for breakfast with great views.

Now looking at Greek islands (except Cyprus, Crete, Rhodes), Menorca, Sicily)

Regarding Greek Islands.

Is the plumbing situation still roughly similar to when we went ie...stick your loo roll in a bin due to the narrow pipes. Or have some of the more modern hotels / resorts removed this complication.

It wouldn't be a deal changer but we had a bit of a nasty experience SC years back, previous guests bin not emptied clearly someone had an offensive curry, welcome to Greece.

Great friends were there last year and it was 23-25 c days and 18-20c overnight during half term.

Yep mostly the same but, some hotels have wider plumbing pipes. The apartments we stay at change the bin every single day without fail.
