Blaze is really good though smile I was never fitter than when I was doing that. I can't afford it anymore so we sacked it off but I echo the kids swimming and tennis etc. But as a Gym alone without all the ancillaries, I get 80% from my local £18.99 Gym as I did at DL.

Depends on what you want. Some people spend more than that a month on Sky TV and Just Eat and they're not 'well off'

I'd rather go to DL and have a stty car than spend hundreds on car finance every month.

David Lloyd is for posers; the one closest to where I am is at a marina location and has all the treadmills lined up in front of full length windows on the first floor, ideally located so that all those passing by below can gasp in awe.

It’s a deliberately expensive gym - sorry, “health club” - for those who want to tart about and spend their income on something that is intentionally overpriced in order that they can feel superior. It has a market and fills a niche, and the vast majority of us who all think it’s comedically pricey are clearly not it!
Port Solent?

It’s quite normal to put the treadmills in front of the windows, it’s to give people running a nice view, not so that people can watch them.
Yeah. In this case however… biggrin

I'm lucky that I have a gym (well, a Peloton bike and some weights hehe) in a room above my garage as nowadays I'd be too lazy to exercise if I actually had to get to a gym to do it. Also, I wouldn't want to be paying £185 for it either. eek

I do find that my garage stuff and a short run two or three times a week is quite enough. I'm not training for the Olympics or World's Strongest Man so I'm good. No hot women to look at when I'm at home though. biggrin

Yep, guilty, as I'd rather pay and be surrounded by Russian hookers then swim with the unwashed peasants at our local swimming pool.

I like the high prices of David Lloyd, it keeps the riff raff out and the MILFs in.

We have a free gym at work. It doesn't help that the canteen is in the same building and all you can smell are bacon sarnies. biggrin
I'm a member of puregym and they always seem to have the cv machines over looking at least one KFC, McDonalds or subway

Funny you say about couldn’t be bothered. I tend to find I can easily ‘quit’ a home work out and distract myself with something else that I could be doing. By contrast, if I make the effort to go to the gym I am far more dedicated to the session or else the whole thing was a waste of time.

As for costs, I don’t really see what additional value these DL gyms bring but to each their own. I don’t tend to use a pool or sauna etc so my Anytime Fitness membership meets my own needs plus fits my locations in having one 5 mins of where I am in either Yorkshire or Hampshire. They are clean, well equipped and efficient for a tiny percentage of the DL price but just no frills other than for working out. I go 6 times a week so think that’s remarkable value for money at about £1 per visit.

When I used to be a gym goer many years ago, I was a member at the local leisure centre, to get in and out of the gym you had to walk through a Burger King!

The added value of DL it’s the racquet sports facilities that many other gyms don’t have and the perceived better social networking. Everything else is available on other gyms.

For the prices there I much rather have a home gym and tennis club membership. If you are a member to exercise/improve your health you don’t need to pay DL prices. But this applies to most things in life.

Used to be a member in Southampton for the tennis years ago and even then that was expensive. A few years ago looked into a family membership on the Woking one…. Facilities really poor and the cost made Anglian Windows quotes look competitive!! It’s a joke…

Same reason they put the yoga mats in front of some of the weight lifting machines - to give you a nice view while you're doing your bicep curls.

It's hard to beat Virgin Active. My local club in Solihull has all the usual facilities, plus outdoor pool, spa area, etc. They have an annual push for re-siging where they give 2 months free. It costs me £54 a month for 10 months, so a tenner a week.

Never quite worked out the point of a place like David Lloyd. Unless you're some tonked beast who wants to run through the local posh MILFs then crack on.
To be fair you could go to a cheap gym and find not so posh MILFs. Bit more risky in the back of a Ford Focus compared to a Range Rover smile

Now that's a gym canteen that I would join!

When you consider its more a country health club than a gym the cost of DL membership becomes quite reasonable.

Me? i'm at PureGym @ an eye watering £12.99 a month opening deal for the first 12 months.

My DL wasn't rammed with posh milfage today, never is frown
There were plenty of old geezers, me included, using the gym. The equipment, like the clientele, is a bit tired. Doesn't seem worth £65 pcm, but it's convenient; and it is Stevenage after all...

A mate is a member at the Cheadle one, he is always telling me he saw someone there and looks dissapointed when I dont know who they are, its usually either someone who was/is in Hollyoaks, a Footaballer or someone "Insta Famous", not seen Hollyoaks since the 1990s when it had the curly haired girl in it who was later in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, no clue with footballers beyond the really famous ones and no idea who influencers are usually.

We got to Total Fitness, its 60 odd quid a month, too busy a lot of time and stuff is always broken, but overall its convenient and has what you need.
That DL is the one where very aggressive people drive into. It attracts a seriously odd crowd.

Local (council) gym 5 mins from home. Walkable.

£35/m. Swim, sauna, steam room and all the classes included. All modern Technogym kit and the membership permits access to the other gyms in the council area. I go just about every day so see it as a complete bargain.

Another £4/m on top gets you access to two golf courses and a driving range.

My one and only experience of a DL club was enough to conclude that even at the same money, I’d rather stay where I am.

My DL is £165.00 a month. I am solely a member for the use of their tennis courts.

They seem to offer 3 months for tuppence to get you in, so the club is mostly populated by Essex yobs and those that want to make their shoulders look like a coat hanger has been surgically implanted. Significant use of disabled bays without badges, an inability to be courteous, I understand that this is the most popular DL in the UK, it’s not a great advert for membership ( I’m sure that there are some lovely DLs out there)
