FMIC upgrade but no remap? Yeah, right! Suspect remap’s been removed for the sale.
Needs a PPI / engine diagnostic by Toyota – will the 10-year warranty be valid?
There’s a 50:50 chance it’s been thrashed by someone with a f*ck ‘em ‘n’ chuck ‘em mentality.
Why risk it when there’re plenty of OEM-spec FSH 1-owner cars, with remainder of the 10-year warranty, for fewer £s?
Next.
You could say that about any Hot hatch TBH. At least the car is being sold with the upgrades, so the buyer knows exactly what they are buying.Needs a PPI / engine diagnostic by Toyota – will the 10-year warranty be valid?

I know from the Audi Forums, people modify their S3's / RS3's etc, and put them back to standard when it comes to PX or selling privately.
I'd rather buy knowing what's been done, rather than not.

Ford lost £7-8,000 on every MK1 Focus RS is built. It wasn't as bespoke as the Yaris, or did it develop a new AWD system for it, or give it a carbon roof, or front and rear trick diffs. The Diff fitted to the Focus was hot & miss. Great on smooth roads, but an absolute nightmare when not. And yes, I owned one from new for 2 years.
But I think it’s important to note only 4501 RS Mk1s were built and the losses were certainly not £7-8k on a £20k car. A quick google search says £4k but that it’s an internet forum rumour again. Edited by Wab1974uk on Thursday 2nd May 16:25
There are also over 32,000 GR Yaris and more on the way so the scale is completely different!

Look at the level of tech in that car and tell me it's a £30k car. Bespoke and particularly high performance engine, bespoke AWD system, virtually every body panel was bespoke and some of them were carbon.
All of those things were high cost in their own right, never mind the development costs that would only be amortised over a fairly small production run. Yet it was cheaper than a Golf R, which shares a whole lot more with other Golfs.
They built it for marketing, because it would've been the basis of their WRC car. They're not a charity but they got a hundred times more publicity off the back of this than they did from the regular Yaris, so think of the "loss" as Toyota paying for that publicity.

I just don’t see Toyota doing it. They only exist to make money for their shareholders.
It’s just a myth someone has started on a forum for some weird reason as they think it means the car is more special when realistically it’s just a lack of understanding of how businesses operate.
If VW can make a Golf R for cheaper than a Yaris Gr yet sell it for more then fair play they are doing something right! The more margin the better.

Airtec, for the authentic 63 plate fiesta ST look in mcdonald's car park at 11pm
Or, on track during daylight hours lapping faster than any shopping car has any right to, picking on M2s and stuff key is to have an Airtec Intercooler but not have it show through the grille.Airtec intercoolers are really quite good, just a bit heavy.
Wouldnt pay 36 grand for that though, doesnt need the kit and you dont generally get your money back on modifications.
(I have one too btw before you get all shirty )

It really was a roulette, I ran an RS as a daily for 8 years and genuinely never had the crazy torque steer some had and it was mapped with decent torque.Edited by Wab1974uk on Thursday 2nd May 16:25
Anywho, Toyota would not make a st load more than originally planned and then the mk2 if they hadn’t got economies of scale sorted and a profit, albeit at a thinner margin imo.

The red is the best colour for these IMO. As others said, the black does it no favours and I am over the 'Triple Black' look.
Triple black has to be the worst aesthetic trend of the last 10 years or so.Every Range Rover I've ever seen in 'murdered out' spec look ste and like it belongs on a council estate despite the fact it'll have cost £150k in the recent past.

I think you need to do a bit more research if you think Akio Toyoda wasn’t prepared to sign this off and take a loss. It was made to homologate a rally car that never happened. Of course Toyota want to make a profit, but have a look at their financial results for the last few years and tell me if they are strapped for cash! Even a £10k loss on each car is a drop in the ocean given the brand benefits this car has given Toyota. I just don’t see Toyota doing it. They only exist to make money for their shareholders.

Keep thinking I have spotted one of these but when I get closer realise its a sporty hybrid thing and not a GR.
It’s a rare car to see out and about on a normal week day, I guess most owners keep them as a special weekend car, or worried about putting unnecessary mileage on. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a red one on the open highway, for me it’s the best colour. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
