Ineos Grenadier Commercial on sale now

New VAT reclaimable two-seater is exclusive to UK, priced from £52k

You don’t need to look far to see how popular commercial vehicles have become of late. It’s also not hard to understand why when they’ve become as likeable and capable as trucks like the VW Amarok. With the BIK and VAT benefits still on top (who says a protest doesn’t work?), don’t expect the popularity to wane any time soon.

Now Ineos is joining the ranks, with the long-awaited - “Customers in the UK have been asking for this addition to our model line-up since we launched in 2022”, said Commercial Director George Ratcliffe - Grenadier Commercial. A two-seat variant, it now has 2,000 litres of space behind the seats, which is enough room for a Euro pallet on the flat floor. Just as importantly for those wanting to use the Grenadier for work, it has a braked towing capacity of 3,500kg and the ability to winch 5,500kg.

Despite modest tweaks from the standard car, it’ll be easy to identify a Commercial from a regular Grenadier. The rear windows have been replaced by aluminium panels, the rear doors are black glazed and, inside, rear chassis mounting points have been permanently disabled to prevent any possibility of a second row of seats being added. Underneath, much is familiar, with the ladder frame chassis, solid beam axles and choice of BMW straight six engines. Ineos says the Grenadier combines ‘rugged British spirit and design with German engineering rigour’.

The Commercial replaces the two-seat Utility Wagon in the range, is on sale now, and is priced from £51,931 excluding VAT and on-the-road costs. Given a used Grenadier will still cost very nearly £50k anyway, it’s easy to see why the Commercial might appeal. Just don’t forget the speed limits for commercial vehicles…

£76 grand for a visually striking consumer lifestyle vehicle isn't too nuts in the grand scheme of things. Niche, but I can see the market.

£52 grand ex VAT for a commercial vehicle that wants to compete with pickups and 4x4 vans is hilarious. They're going to sell about 3.

Weird how often companies that talk about always promoting the best talent end up with Directors with the same surname as the big boss.

Nothing to say on the vehicle - seems OK if you need that sort of thing but I no longer do.

You say that, but have you seen the cost of a new top spec Hilux recently? They're £50k too!

I kind of get the commercial Defender for an owner of a posh bakery or flower shop in Kensington or Chelsea. However this INEOS is a bit too commercial in appearance which I suspect it's intended buyers would be better suited to a van or pick up.

The non-commercial ones are seriously popular around where I live. I expect these are going to be just as popular. And as others have said I bet theres a handy DIY Bulkhead removal and rear seat pack coming along any time soon.

Would make a great base for a campervan vehicle - seems to have decent enough interior height compared to the current shorty Defender.

Yep, given the money some people spend on VW camper vans this could easily become popular for similar duties.

...agreed, prettiness is so important in a commercial.

So is this one VAT reclaimable because the Utility wagon never was due to excessive weight and a sub 1000kg payload. There would have been no need for this if they'd engineered it to original spec in the first place (it was meant to be VAT reclaimable) or had known how to deal with HMRC which they clearly didn't. Or am I missing something crucial?

There's a strong whiff of French spirit more like.

but doesnt say what the payload is. I can believe the flat floor and no seats has saved 400kg to get to a 1 tonne payload. and its a two seater van with the lower speed limits so you really have to want one over a crew cab pickup

'British cars'? It's less British than an Indian company having cars badged as Jaguars built in Austria and calling them 'British'.

Yes, it's amazing how often that happens. Pure coincidence though I'm sure.

This is a dodge to let them sell more cars without breaking the barrier as a small vehicle maker

Although originally it was going to be even craftier with four seats, one tonne playload, room for a pallet etc. What happened to that? I wonder if they'll sell you aftermarket rear seats? Probably
