That's my car! I got super lucky buying that as it was just at the point where the world didn't know what was happening re: COVID. People were being sensitive with expensive assets and none of the supply chain issues had hit the automotive market which eventually sent used cars sky high. Funnily enough, collecting cars was also new to market and were determined to let this sale go through, despite it not meeting its reserve price of £63k. Towards the end of the auction they contacted the seller to say it wasn't going to meet the reserve and they made the difference up between what I paid and what he wanted for the car. In the following weeks the automotive supply chain issues hit and people started to adopt the 'we only live once' approach to luxury cars and expenses so the prices on these went to the moon compared to what I paid - happy days.

I had been in market for 2-3yrs prior to this purchase and had actually agreed with another private seller a very low ball offer on a PDK, artic silver, 4wd GTS, non centre lock car with only 10,000 miles on it. Fortunately and, despite a gentleman's agreement being in place, someone in the same village as the seller of the PDK car offered him what he wanted for it and he cancelled on me the day before I was going to collect it. The next day my best friend called me to say he had seen a manual one on collecting cars and I should check it out - I thanked him for the lead, but mentioned I didn't think it was something I could afford as the manuals were quite a bit out of my budget based on the research I'd been doing. However, with only a couple of hours left on the auction, I took the time to check it over and due to being quite a rare car in the UK, I was able to see it had been at PAR and Ashgood previously so built some confidence that it may be a decent car.

I also noticed that I could see the names of the people bidding on collecting cars, some of them were dealers I had asked to source me a GTS so thought....if they want it then I should, too (they'd only call me next week offering it with a margin on top)! So then I got a bit cunning and thought about the phycology of what seeing those dealers names in the bidding history did to my mindset and thought I'll create a username on collecting cars that demonstrates I am here to buy this car and this car only. So, I registered my username as 'Black997GTS' and entered a bid! There was only less than an hour to go, this was a really rushed scenario and I went on my instinct - following my initial bid, someone bid ontop, then me again and then the screen flashed saying CONGRATULATIONS! Bearing in mind I had never bought from auction, to be honest, I've barely even bought anything off eBay, i'd also never even sat in a porsche, let alone a 997 GTS, but something was telling me to follow through and I knew I wanted this perfect spec car. Anyway, here we are a four years later and I am still pinching myself every time I get to drive it. Its off to JZM for some preventative maintenance before the summer kicks in - front coolant pipes, new radiators, and 4 new tyres. Bring on the summer!
Very pleased to hear you are still enjoying the GTS, Jack! Much missed but replaced by a 991.2 Targa 4 GTS recently - both amazing in very different ways.

Hey! Were you the original owner I bought this off? If so, it was a pleasure meeting you and reliving you of this fine specimen! Congrats on the new GTS, the targa is just stunning! I also seem to remember you were having some work done on your beautiful house, guess that's now finished and the boss signed off on the new wheels wink!

Hope you're well smile

Yes that’s me mate! Home improvement budget over-run forced GTS sale to you via Collecting Cars at the time. We both got a good deal I felt.

I bought the car from Mike at Ashgood before that and, as someone said earlier in the thread, it is the only solid black car in the country. A proper keeper!

Good luck with it and see you at a meet sometime… Still miss that N/A burble - the 991.2 doesn’t sound great stock. I’ve had a JCR titanium centre section fitted which makes a massive improvement but still not like yours. Go well!

Had a drive of a pdk car and enjoyed it..

May finally be time if I can find one…

Wouldn’t mind a short drive of a manual just to feel the weight of the clutch - anyone got one in the northwest? Would any manual 997 clutch / change motion feel the same if I can find a lesser model to try?

Need to find a nice non white coupe - not much around..

Bit of a gap in the service history! That said, reflected in the price vs other recent manuals for sale.

Yep, GTS powertrain is Carrera with the powerkit so clutch will be identical. Gear change differs depending on if a short-shift kit is fitted, which might have been a factory option?

If you aren't after White, Basalt or Silver then you could be in for a long wait!

yep some are GT3 money, but then such GTS some just 10hp shy of such GT3 997.1 are also some sort of special, those with manual 2wd are perhaps more rare as well then a GT3?

Pics of it now on their site. Seems a heck of a deal to me, manual GTS with buckets, super rare.

Might be the 5.5 year gap in the service history and it's a bit leggy for some tastes.

Possibly, but a unicorn like that, I'd imagine people won't dwell on that as long as its in fine health

IME Porsche buyers are quite anal about that sort of thing, especially buyers of that sort of car.

I remember a sales managed at my local OPC telling me a car he was selling had....one late service. He confided in me as though he had given given herpes to the Dealer Principal's daughter.

This one is bound to polarise opinion. I quite like it. What are we thinking price wise, £75K?

£88k is crazy money.

OK it's a manual coupe, but it's a 4wd GTS in a marmite colour which is trying to be a GT3.

Might as well choose a GT3 or a turbo.
