In an unexpected twist of fate, it seems some GT4 RS allocations have been released for late summer build, and I no longer need to see what happens to used prices. My local OPC only got one allocation, so I am exceptionally chuffed that they offered it to me. I don't think the sales person got to the end of the sentence before I had made the decision to accept. If I find that a used example would have been better value for money when delivery time comes, I think I can live with it pretty happily. Still pinching myself to check I'm not dreaming! (Also that I'm willing to buy an automatic gearbox car with no rear wiper... wink )

Congrats Liam!!

So which cars are going/staying and what spec are you going for? The excitement must be unreal right now! smile

I emailed them all some months ago, got similar replies and details of stock cars.

I did get offered a car in build, great spec wrong colour, so I pondered for the day and then it had gone.

I'm currently sat on the fence as I see the prices dropping, and as been said OPC cars are still overs which until they re-align or sell we won't know the true value. I'm not prepared to pay 20K overs for it to vanish months later.

Thanks @jackwood, and everyone else for all the good wishes. Beyond excited, I was hoping to get the deposit transferred and order signed today just so I know it's really happening. But the promised email didn't turn up today, so I'm slightly anxious, as well as incredibly excited.

Fortunately no need to rush to decide what I'm selling. The obvious thing will be to move the 981 GT4 on, and keep the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 as the daily. I'd like to keep all 3 really. However I have agreed to a strict "one in, one out" on vehicles with my wife, and I cheated a little bit by hanging onto both motorcycles when I bought a third last year. There's also the option of swapping the GTS 4.0 for something a little more ordinary at some point, but I doubt I'll rush into that. Slightly overkill as a "winter hack", but it's a very good car!

I did have a quick play on the configurator last night, and noticed that PTS can only be selected with WP as an option. That means that the difference between standard colours non-WP and PTS is almost £20k as a minimum. I've never been a massive fan of visible carbon weave on the outside of cars. Luckily Carrara White isn't available even as PTS, so I may well just get yet another plain white one. I love Gentian Blue, but I hate trying to keep dark metallic colour cars looking their best.

Steel cage, carbon bucket seats, harnesses for both seats and front axle lift are all must-haves for me. Probably iron discs and ally wheels for the sake of keeping maintenance costs reasonable if I do track it a lot (I live on a single-track road that's often badly pot-holed, so concerned that mag wheels would suffer). Leather interior, or of course WP interior also looks really good.

So as @ChrisW. has mentioned: To WP or not to WP? That is the question!

I did a couple of specs, one was white, non-WP, leather, Bose, Lift, buckets, harnesses, black handles, leather steering column and that was about it. Steel brakes and alloy wheels. Came to £135k. I was then just going to stick some stickers on it to brighten the outside up a bit. Something simple. Think that would be a perfect spec as a track and fun car.

Great fun, messing on the configurator! Enjoy!

Very happy to hear from as many as want to! Deposit paid, and I have the receipt, so I have some confidence I'm getting a car, and seemingly much sooner than the 11 months I've waited for 3 previous new Cayman orders. Factory want my spec by May 20th.

In a small change to my understanding of the rules of engagement, any "vicarious speccers" need to know that while all options on the configurator should be available, the allocation is a "non-PTS". All other colours appear to have availability, but I'll be taking the 914 Olympus Blue spec I had saved out of the mix.

After looking at a lot of photos of used examples, I think it's likely to get the Weissach Pack. I'd just as happily live without the carbon weave bonnet and rear wing, but both WP side air intakes look a lot better to me.

@jackwood, I'm not sure about Bose. I think I've got it in my 981 GT4, but I think I'd struggle to hear the difference while driving, so never really looked at the speaker grills.

Rest assured that Bose is a complete and utter waste of money on a 4RS. Put the grand towards another set of Cup2’s much more sensible.
When I ordered mine PCCBs were not available and as I track bunny I was OK with that. However I have a lingering niggle in the back of my mind that a car with PCCB’s and mags could be very interesting. Unsprung weight and all that.
Might improve the ride / handling on bumpy roads. Should I be ordering another that’s where my money would probably go.

You must be very excited @finmac, not long to go now! Seems like we are planning similar patterns of frequent use to one another. The pictures of your spec look really good, but I'm likely to go for white. I really like the look of the "white with WP" used car that Porsche Centre Guildford have. If it only had front axle lift, and was about £20k less, I may not have still been waiting in line.

So currently the balance is tipped towards WP, but I have a couple of weeks to mull it over yet.

I'll be nervous with PCCBs. Caught a stone with a 4.0 GTS front brake a couple of months ago, and scored the steel disc surpisingly deep. All OK and wearing flat again now, but may not have gone quite so well with ceramic coating. I know someone that had a chipped PCCB disc on a GT3 RS, and it's really quite an expensive replacement of parts.

Thanks for the advice on Bose!

Going for the “panda” look then @Liam wink. WP will work well with white - great contrast with the bare cf.

Took this out yesterday for a decent run and it’s annual MOT/service. First time driven since October, what a machine. If I’m honest, having driven it again now after such a long layoff and having never even test driven the 4RS, I just hope it cuts the mustard, it’s got some proper competition!

I have Bose on mine and it’s totally pointless. I also don’t think it’s the same system as in other 718s - certainly not as good as it was in my Spyder.

I also have mags and PCCB and, as is the usual story, damaged a wheel in the first thousand miles with a stone caught between the calliper and rim. All in all I love the look and weight saving especially of the mags, but it’s a stressful pair of components.

You could just wrap the side vents and save the £10k? I mean, they will have to be PPF’d anyway I would have thought.

Don’t think Bose was an option in 981 GT4. Just sound package Plus? Either way, I think I’d have it, just for being able to hear anything while on long runs on the motorway to get you to the fun bits smile But that’s just me.

Oh, and definitely the LED lights. They just look so much better.

Amazing how quickly the options add up though, lol.

Regarding PCCB’s, my GT4 now has scapes on the inside of both front wheels. Urrrgggg Not sure if ever spec them again to be fair. They do look good, but I don’t actually like the feel of them, let alone the cost and potential issues.

Well done Liam nice to see those who haven’t “ been worthy in the past “ getting allocations.
State of market is even brand new cars( pre registered) are now just over list. Thankfully the market is returning to some normality and those want can purchase at list.

Liam - congratulations. I’ve been fortunate to spec x 2 new cars - long story! The first was PCCB n/a and the 2nd was everything available except PTS. No longer have either as they are too harsh to daily @ circa1000 miles per month.

My advice would be to spec as cheap as possible, skip the PPF and just drive it. If there is no exposed carbon fibre, everything else can be painted if required. PCCB’s scoring the wheels - it’s just a case of when and not if, can be expensive if the mags get damaged too! No need to upgrade the stereo, you won’t be able to hear it anyway.

If I was going to spec another:-

Interesting viewpoint. For me, the sweet spot is low spec/price point. Too dear and it’s heading right into GT3 territory, which made less sense to me at least. As such that’s the approach I have adopted and very close to the same spec you have here - one or two cheap extra tweaks on mine plus the paint cost. Suspect I will PPF mine as I go out with mates quite a lot and the PPF will help in terms of the front end of the car not getting peppered early on.

I’ll never get to spec one as it would be my first Porsche, but if I did, blue with rest of the spec the same. £130k. Feels a lot of car for the money.

Sounds good - just remember to declare the PPF to the insurance provider. Although with full PPF approaching £6k all-in, it’s money you’ll never necessarily re-coup.

Congratulations to!
