Why can't 981's come down more?

A manual S ticks the box nicely.

What's your budget? I know of a very nice 2,7 for sale at very sensible money.

Oh I'm not properly looking, I just like to keep an eye on potential future purchases and these are still far above what I'd pay.

I couldn't stomach the loss in depreciation that comes with using a 25 grand car for decent miles.

I've just bought a £25k 981 Boxster S.

It's worth it!

Anyone here fancy selling me a beautiful 3.2S that they've sunk a small fortune into over the past few years? smile
I sold my ‘05 3.2S for £15k in Feb ‘22 and I had spent the required small fortune on it. The new owner got a lot of enjoyment out of it bar the need for a failed water pump.

Just need to be patient as cars are out there and prices have softened from when I sold mine.

I'd be very interested to hear your direct comparisons between the 981S and the 987 2.7 as a long term Boxster 987 2.7 owner.I had a 981 2.7 for a day and was a bit underwhelmed by it tbh, very competent car though but guess the 981S is a different kettle of fish?

They are very different cars. The 981 feels much more up-to-date, the interior is a huge step up and the exterior styling is much more dramatic. The 315 BHP vs 245 of the 987 makes it a much faster car. The steering is not quite as talkative, but not dull enough to be a problem. The 981 is quite a lot more refined, and the gearchange and ride are noticeably better.

That said, I'd still like to own a 987 2.7 as well. The induction sound can be laugh-out-loud amazing, and they have a certain tactile quality that the 981 lacks.

In summary, both are brilliant cars, but I am pleased I made the step up. My particular car has a striking colour combination and it feels genuinely special every time I drive it.

Excellent,thanks...for the short time I had a 981 2.7 which was a loaner from Porsche would pretty much echo those comparisons athough I do have a real soft spot for my 987 2.7 as a more raw experience but there's no doubt the 981 moved the game on in several key areas.

I'm sure I watched some Chris Harris videos at the time saying the bigger engine really was the one to go for in the 981.

I'm very pleased I went the whole way and bought the 3.4. They also tend to have been better specced by wealthier original owners. Mine has £12,000 worth of extra bits.

But no climate control.curse

Had a look around a 63 plate Boxster at a colleagues house - they're big aren't they ?!
Had an idea they were more of a smaller/sportier little number - this is not a derogatory remark - just an observation.
Explains why they are valued for their boot space/s - probably make a brilliant touring car ?
Are they heavy ? Do they feel nimble/sporty ? Or more of a solid/planted drive ?
I've just gone from a 2005 2.7 to a 2013 Boxster S.

The 981 does feel a bit bigger. It's a big step forward, much more modern inside and in my opinion much better to look at. The 987 was lovely but fairly anonymous, the 981 turns heads and has kids pointing and giving thumbs up, etc.

They are both brilliant to drive. The 987 has better steering, with its hydraulic system, while the 981 has an electric set-up. The 315BHP of the 981S is a big step from the 245 of the 2.7 987.

My 981S:

It's worth pointing out that the new one cost more than three times as much as the old one. The 987 is an outrageous bargain.
As for the difference in public reactions, I think that's likely due to the difference in colour combinations rather than the difference between 987 and 981. The deep blue of the 981 just really stands out, especially in with the light interior, a beautiful colour combination.

I was impressed with the 981 but decided to keep the 987 as I prefer the looks and have driven down to Italy many times over the 11 years or so I've owned it covering some great driving roads with some epic drives so there's real sentimental value in there now, that said If the chance to own a 981 Boxster GTS manual came up would jump into one of those but would still keep the trusty 987!

That's a lovely colour, what was it called on the 987 generation?

Yes, I think that's a good point. I also think though that the 981 resolved some styling issues, particularly at the back of the car.

Lapis blue, really pops in direct sunlight and the colour I specifically wanted when I was hunting for a 987.

My wife loves the idea of an Italy trip. Can you tell me where you went? I need a few ideas for our own roadtrip.
