Go back to the Bank, its not fraud, but you can chargeback under "goods not described". Come back to me if you need help with a letter

Wouldn't he have to return the wrong engine which is now half way into Escy's F-Pace ?

As soon as you do the chargeback the money will be refunded to Escy's account and an investigation will take place. they will request more info from the seller but he has two pics of different engines the one he bought and the one that was sent to him. Ultimately they could request the engine back, but i have a feeling that they wont want to incur the extra costs to do that and will move on to scamming their next victim.

At the very least you should be able to negotiate a much lower price. You would be amazed at how willing people are to negotiate once they dont have your money anymore!

You can’t chargeback a bank transfer in that way. A part of the price was paid on PayPal, but IIRC their buyer protection doesn’t apply if you (or your representative) physically collected the goods - would need to read their agreements - and might not apply if (a) the PayPal account didn’t belong to the seller, and (b) was only partial payment for the goods.

This is why a credit card is a good bet (at least until the Govt caves and repeals S.75), but also one of the reasons why dodgy sellers don’t like credit cards.

Then the police get involved - it's all drama you don't need. Get the engine in and running and then take a view.

If the engine runs well, I'd still get rid of the bding thing.

Yup.
Easy to say when you don't have to face the potential consequences.

Simple, they’ll just sell it as a 30,000 miler.

Sorry to be reading all this aggro!

Get it back together so it runs and take it straight to WBAC and run yourself. Life is too short! Admire your perseverance.

Good luck. 👍

Hopefully Ecsy has made some nice progress over the long weekend, and the weather has been ok for it too!

Ah yes, this weekend, it's been deep pockets, clattery noises, careful alignments, breaks, .... yup, I've been watching the snooker.

wink

I worked on it over the weekend. I didn't really take any pictures as it's all been seen before a few times on this thread.

I did use my new favourite garage toy on it, a vacuum filler for the coolant. It takes a lot of the hassle out of it. Before I ended up changing the charge cooler pump due to a fault code which I'm pretty sure was due to an air lock and not a faulty pump.

I got it running on Sunday. The new engine sounds quieter. It all runs fine, no fault codes, no leaks. I've made a YouTube video documenting this latest disaster and it has a clip of it running.

I'm not sure what the plan is moving forward. If I decide to get rid of it that will probably happen in the summer holidays.

I feel like I'm stuck in an abusive relationship, I've got a bruised wallet but it's telling me it's changed.

Leapords (and money pits) don't change their spots...

Well done for getting it running. I am in awe of your mechanic skills.

i would get shot asap imo - do you really want the drama of having to get yet another engine which will of course have all the same issue - they are clearly a turd
