What do you think is going on in this garden? (Not exciting)

OK house purchase paranoia time
Why do you think the garden in the middle of this pic looks like this? I am talking about the colour and pattern of the back half of the garden in the middle of the pic.
So far I have been assuming that it’s probably just paved in blue grey cement tiles or similar but I have become a bit paranoid that it looks a bit like a roof? Or something else?
The neighbours on the near side have built a garage with a high mono-pitch roof which could be an effort to hide it from view?

Difficult to say, although to me the shadow from the garage looks small compared to other buildings. Having that that the shadow of the neighbour's garage suggests its a patio area.(would expect to see less/no shadow from that garage if the area is a roof)
Have you looked at google earth and / or bing maps to see if you can get a birds eye view to see if there's any elevation there.

Whatever it is, it looks like it's level with the top of the fence on the northern side and level with the pitched roof building immediately to the east of the structure. I reckon it's a massive pergola with plastic sheets like those see through corrugated ones on the top.Combined with the small panel van with roof rack & ladders I'm thinking small business, painter / decorator, furniture restoration and things like that.
I know from streetview sleuthing that they have coexisted with the neighbours on the near side for many years so I'm hoping that the noise isn't too much of a problem.

Why not just knock on the door and ask?I know from streetview sleuthing that they have coexisted with the neighbours on the near side for many years so I'm hoping that the noise isn't too much of a problem.

The estate agent asked the sellers. Apparently he's a charming retired motor mechanic and keeps his classic motorcycle etc under there
So the back garden looks like a scrapyard. Lovely. Charming that the owner has thought to keep rain off his tinkering, as if scrap looks better without rust lol.Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
