My 17.5-year-old dog developed arthritis around November. In addition to receiving Librella once a month, I have been prescribed Lexicom and Tramadol, which provide inconsistent relief. Recently, someone recommended a natural sleeping aid. As a result, I have stopped giving my dog all medications except for Librella. If she experiences pain at night, which happens about twice a week, I give her this natural remedy that I believe is effective and made from natural ingredients. It works wonderfully for her, and its on Amazon.

Green lipped muscle supplement, the human version is much cheaper than the animal targetted version and is the same.

Used to give it to my old collie-cross and it made a bit of a difference he got to 16, but your pup sounds like they are having a really hard time. It is so heartbreaking when they are in pain.

Thanks for sharing.
Seeing our furry friends struggle with age-related issues is really heartbreaking.
Our dog also had arthritis. We gave her Galliprant (thanks to a pet prescription without vet I could order it any time we needed it). From what I read, this is one of the safest options for controlling pain and inflammation compared to over-the-counter, non-veterinary products.
Also, it is essential to control exercise. Gentle regular lead walks are better than an hour spent running around after a ball or with another dog.

I phoned and asked my vet (well, our dogs' vet) for a prescription for metacam.
She explained in some detail that Onsior was safer and more effective.
There is nothing more certain to get male pet-owner compliance than a lovely warm southern Irish female voice. cloud9

So we got a prescription for Onsior with 4 repeats and have bought the first month's worth (£29).
It does seem to be better for my 16 year old cocker spaniel - she was actually running quite fast to cach up on Saturday, first time I have seen her run for some months.

Thank you for another option to consider and read up about, as you you know it’s trying to manage the pain and yesterday I met someone with a 20 year old who we swapped notes.

It seems that the 4 weekly jab of librella is the basic lifesaver for arthritis.

We discussed the options of instant pain relief being
Loxicom
Metacom
Tramadol
and even a tiny dose of paracetamol if in a emergency situation but the medication really is for discussion with a vet.

They were not aware of the dog melatonin which I think as more of a night time stress reliever/sleeper.
