Emergency landing at Newcastle (Aus)

Bit of drama at lunchtime today.

According to the news reports the landing gear failed just after take off so it spent a couple of hours burning fuel before landing. Looks like a perfect landing.

Other footage (try YouTube) shows the 3 that were onboard opening the door, stepping out, and standing calmly beside it.

Smile at the ABC reporter commentary "belly up landing" , you definately don't want to have the belly up when landing, Pilot not know that there is an emergency hand pump procedure for locked wheels up situation ?

Given they’d been going in circles for a couple of hours you’d hope someone on the ground would have said “Try this…” at some point.

I’d assume it was knackered and they had no other choice.

How and how often would/should a hand pump be tested?

I have no aviation experience but it looks like the wheels are just poking out underneath the wings and that he managed to position the aircraft in order to use them.

Or am I talking b0llox

WTF? I wish my landings were that buttery! And I have the benefit of, erm, wheels...

I wonder if the aircraft has massively increased ground effect when the wing is that close to the runway?
