New Jaguar F-Pace 90th Anniversary launched

Run-out model pays tribute to Jaguar's combustion legacy alongside hot-blooded SVR 575 Edition

Jaguar has made plenty of mistakes in the past ten years; the F-Pace was not one of them. Sure, it might’ve initially bent a few noses out of shape with its conspicuous SUVness (most of those noses belonging to people who thought that Jaguar should exclusively build saloons) but it was absolutely of its time and sold like it. The firm reckons it has built 328,000 of them since the model launched in 2016; a fairly modest number by some rival (German) measures, but a veritable home run for Jaguar. And a deserved one, too: the F-Pace was well-proportioned and good to drive. Very good, if you went for the SVR

Mindful of this fact - and obviously conscious of the need to keep the car front of mind as its all-electric future approaches the present - Jaguar has launched something called the F-Pace 90th Anniversary Edition. Why 90 years? Well, that refers to the manufacturer’s ‘nine decades of innovation and internal combustion engine production’ and does rather rubber stamp the idea that this will be among the last fossil-fuelled cars that Jaguar sells. That makes it less of a special edition and more a way of marking out the last portion of the production run for anyone opting for an S, SE or HSE spec car. Expect ‘subtle badging, with R-Dynamic exterior cues' and options including diamond-turned alloy wheels, privacy glass, a panoramic roof and with sports seats inside. Short of the V8, there’s a wide range of engines, too.

Justifiably worried that this light cosmetic dusting might seem too threadbare for an entire press release, Jaguar has also reminded us that it now builds and sells something called an SVR 575 Edition. Which is much more like it. In point of fact, it claims to launched this model late last year - but it must’ve done so by whispering it into a broken telephone because we’d not heard of it. Still, no matter: as the name suggests, the 575 finally gifts the F-Pace the 5.0-litre V8’s chunkier output, meaning a 25hp improvement over the non-Edition model. This is mostly for bragging rights, of course - the 0-60mph time drops to 3.8 seconds - but when Jaguar says the supercharged unit is a ‘celebration of internal combustion’, you certainly won’t hear any argument from us.

Elsewhere the Edition gets the usual SVR bodywork (including rear diffuser and active exhaust) alongside ’22-inch forged alloy wheels with Diamond Turned finish and Satin Technical Grey contrast’. Inside, you get Suedecloth and Windsor leather performance seats. So not the wettest or wildest special edition either - yet it hardly needs to be. The F-Pace SVR was already the best car Jaguar made; no reason to think that slightly more power would sour that. Either way, both trim levels are available to order now. We still don’t know exactly how long the car will continue to be build (expect to learn more about that the closer we get to Jaguar’s EV transition) but probably best not to hang around if you’ve always fancied one.

Love these, if I was in the market for an SUV, this would definitely be on my short list.

I could easily buy one of these - they are a bit of a bargain with some depreciation thrown in.

575 - yeeeesss..!

SVR the perfect daily for me, quick, sounds superb, not overly massive, relatively discreet.

Yes please (although my budget is probably more at the older XFR end of the scale than this unfortunately).

Lovely but unless they've overhauled their security I won't be having another since my SVR got lifted last month from my drive.

That's with both keys in a steel box in an aluminium lined drawer several yards from the front door. s!

Looking at your past posts you seem to be full of negativity and hatred. Are you seeing someone professional?

Mmmmm yes, these are lovley. One of the better looking fast SUVs surprisingly, Jag translated the design language to something taller very well.

Put me firmly in the single digit iQ camp, happily sit in one of these whilst I eat my crayons.

I never understood the the “Performance “ SUV market until I drove the SVR just over a year ago. Surprised myself just how much I liked it. Had I not decided to jump off the corporate ladder and take a year out I would have bought it.
Had better book myself in to get my brain removed so I can start looking for one.

This just goes to show what a mess Jaguar has become. Don't think they've launched a new car in something like 6 or 7 years. Bet heavily on diesel just as diesel headed south. Have now supposedly bet heavily on electric, just as that market is suffering. That said, given that we are promised a new car in 2025, there seems to be precious little noise about it - no design studies, prototype leaks, anything really. Hard to see them getting anything to market in the next 18 months.

I fear they're just going to disappear. JLR are making so much from the LR bit - what do they need Jaguar for ?

Same for me, I thought they were pointless but the SVR is epic. I'll be driving something less desirable to the light fingered fraternity for a while now though.

I agree with all of this and, to add to the irony, they now make a great 6 cylinder diesel engine (LR having the most diesel sales in the UK) that works well in this car. I also think there’s room, both in terms of size and price, below the current RR Sport.
To have such a dearth of new model information prior to a complete relaunch of a brand makes no sense, even if the EV market were still healthy.

Why do people get obsessed with the ‘performance’ of these type of cars? It’s just nice and enjoyable to have a nice big great sounding engine than some pathetic wheezy thing.

So sorry to see that. I am puzzled how they got a signal? No spare key not in the tin at all? I keep mine in the tin, but to my horror found my spare in a drawer near the front. banghead

Edit just read your post properly! 2 keys. Feckers

I deeply want an F-Pace SVR to add to my other V8 but that means selling my Jaguar XJ which is the most comfortable and relaxing car I've ever driven.

Just two things are stopping me pulling the trigger:

Will it be as comfortable as the Jag
With 110 mile a day commute will it cripple me financially or will it eek out 30mpg on a run (XJ does 45-47mpg on a run)

On the plus side the F-pace sounds better, is far more practical and is a lot smaller than the XJ - like it might actually fit into a parking space!

It's going to happen, but might be at end of current contract when my next commute is known!

I don’t have one of these but a very good friend of mine has the less powerful but still bonkers ‘S’ with the 3.0 turbo engine.

It has very hard suspension which I guess is to stop its tall body falling over around corners. It’s not comfortable when cruising.

Your XJ will always be more comfortable than one of these. It doesn’t have to fight as hard to stop the body rolling. Nor does it have a tall frontal area to fight the air friction. Which will affect the fuel consumption. My mate gets an overall average of 20mpg, 25 on a gentle run.

Comfort is not a problem for me at all. It is a great cruiser but also a fun nutter if you want that. If you are concerned about fuel efficiency then on the motorway I get around 25-27 ish and around town 18-19. The sound is epic in dynamic. These cars have space and comfort and grunt. Very happy with mine.
