They’re quite a niche car - they weren’t well reviewed by the press back in the day and don’t have the same following as other M cars. Having looked at them too, they either get snapped up dead quickly or hang around for ages. For an M car, I think they actually look pretty good value for money.Some cars do seem like a hard sell at the mo; loads on the 130i group for example are struggling to sell cars.
Times are tight still and for many people they’re a toy / third car so are probably harder to justify.
As people have said times are still hard and 2 seaters are always going to be a 2nd or 3rd car which is hard for many to justify.
The £735 a year Road Tax doesn't help, although there are a few M Roadsters that were registered before the 24 March 2006 cut-off so it's "only" £415.
Some of the ones I have seen advertised for ages have been pretty ambitiously priced too.
Plus they seem to be a niche product, although they look like a bargain compared to E46 M3 prices with the bonus of no boot floor issues!
My Coupe was well priced when it was advertised in December 2019. I viewed it 2 days later and left a deposit then collected it another days later so like anything they will sell at the right price.
I love it, and like the fact that there aren't too many of them around as only 592 Coupes and 614 Roadsters seem to have been registered in the UK - probably in part because they were only built for a couple of years.
If you want one, and can get away with it so to speak, just get one but do some research for common issues - primarily lack of Inspection Services and rod bearing shell wear. Plenty of good info. on z4forum.
