I understand the current mileage allowance for a company EV is 9p/mile and I can find the official figures on the government website at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/advisory-fuel-rates

I also believe for personal electric vehicles the advisory rate is 45p (first 10,000 miles) then 25p. I can find this information on numerous sites, but cannot find anything “official” on the actual government website. Does anyone know where this information can please found please?

Is it still to same as on my old diesel. You can claim back the tax on the difference between that & what a company pays you?

For a private vehicle the fuel type makes no difference at all

The company has come back to me and said they have made the decision to only pay 9p/mile for EV use, irrespective to whether they are a personal or company car. That's a pretty disappointing policy.

I presume I can claim tax relief on either the difference if I do claim, or the wghole 45p/mile if I don't?

You can only claim relief on the difference. If you don’t claim the mileage expense, then there’s nothing for you to claim relief on.

Do you get a car allowance? That’s often why companies only pay the advisory fuel rate, rather than the mileage rate.

Other employers have done similar.
Most EV drivers have taken the sensible decision to taxi/train/rental car as a result

No car allowance.

Thanks - I hadn't realised I needed to claim. I'll get that sorted.

It isn't often I need go to the office, and unfortunately taxi/train would be far more inconvenient. I could possibly rent, but doubt they would agree to footing the bill - I'm just not that important!

Interestingly our company had a similar policy for company cars, only paying the HMRC 9p (dropping to 8ppm from June 1st) and the take up of EV for company cars wasnt great.

Now they have stated that for any journeys that are equal or less than 200 miles, then the HMRC rate applies, anything above this then they will cover the cost of public charging. Take up of EV's has hugely increased now!
