GM's stock 2" drop body filter base I believe is the lowest on the market - fits a Holley with perhaps minor mods.......aftermarket billet throttle cable brackets are problematical.

Swapping the normally used 3" filter element for a 2" unit gives some extra room.
But now the filter 'top' is really too close to the top of the carb openings.........replacing with a K & N Air Stream filter 'top' more than makes up for any lost air flow.

The after market is huge , and with the knowledge base on here we shouldn’t go far wrong!
Bare metal’ed the off side rear quarter,
Small area of corrosion to the extreme lower edge and about 6 inches around the edge of the wheel well opening,
Which is spot as I’d already assumed it would be cruddy there!
Straight forward repair.
Ive also started to strip the trunk floor, done about a quarter so so far, all perfect!

In the 24 years I've owned my Vette it has suffered an occasional 'incontinence' issue. It's normally after the winter lay-off and the first few times used needs a power steering 'top-up'. Generally once used regularly a few times and the seals in the steering ram soften-up a little it improves significantly enough to only need an occasional top-up. Against the 'spirit' of "If it ain't broke too badly......don't try to fix it" year ago I bought replacement ram and control valve kits which improved thing a little. I didn't worry too much about the cost of power steering fluid.....it was cheap (it ain't now!) and a drip tray under the car caught most of the dripping fluid. But its irritating me now so thought I'd ask you guys, the team if any of you had used it?

I’ve had a reply from DVLA, I’ve got to them I don’t know the registration number again!
Then they may want to inspect it?
So I’ve got to write on the back of the letter they sent me
Explaining why I don’t know the number again,
And await there decision,
Seems I may not require the whole nova thing,
So I’ll return the paperwork next week and see what they say,
But I suppose the good news is it’s not thrown up any suspect or dodgy history,
My boot floor is looking very very good
With zero evidence of anything other than a bit of light pitting,
Even the rear upper drip rail section that supports the boot hinges is also cleaning up nicely,
Very unlikely this area will need anything other than derusting and a light blast,
All very early days yet but she’s looking very sound and strong.

- if* DVLA have the VIN of the car on the system, then you won't need a nova, as that would have been provided to get the V5. You'd only need the nova info, if it was an import, and a reg number was never applied for with DVLA. If its been in the UK for more than about 10 years, the chances of that being the case is very slim imho, back then when DVLA were less bothered, they would just issued a V5 without much problem, so I can't imagine it was imported and never had a reg applied for........it would be a pretty unique situation if that was the case for older imports.
I did about 20 or so club authenticity letters for freshly imported Vettes. Simply checked vin. no's against images sent by CCCUK members, clearly stated (for benefit of DVLA) the vin no. and month/year of manufacture. Approximate day of month was availability but DVLA didn't need that. Except for one or two applications where GM's occasionally rather odd type font would sometimes confuse all involved. DVLA did later insist on official club 'letters of authenticity' having proper 'ink' written signatures. My own car had been imported and registered with GM's '2' and 'Z' in the vin number transposed.

I’ve basically done what I was told by the DVLASend them a V 62 and state I don’t know its registration number, pay them 25quid to do an archive search!
Unbelievable really!

Yeah !
I suppose some may think I’m being tight , just go for a nova , pay any VAT the Revenue say I owe blah blah,
But it’s been here forever, ok it was made outside the Uk
But come on that was 54 years ago!
So I’ll try this approach for now, if it all goes tits up well so be it, I’ll just return to plan A and go the nova route,
Either way it’s almost certainly going to require an MoT,
So mucho work to do before that’s a possibility!
I’m actually quite relaxed about this issue now,
As the cars a potential gem and one way or another it’s getting done !
I’m quite happy to go the restoration route then MoT then register the car , I’ve proof positive it’s a 1970
So getting an age related plate won’t be a drama,
Currently the absolute best bit is everytime I open the garage door I get an “ Old Spice moment “
Like a dog with two cocks as my old man would say !
