Did the Malvern hills today, was hardest walk I've done, cut it short from 17km to 11km as was knackered. Great mix of hills and then walking through a lovely forrest section. Definitely one to do again when I'm fitter.
Hah, I grew up on the side of North Hill, so know them rather well. They aren't the highest hills, but they're sawtooth and they're steep, so if you walk the ridge line, you gain and lose a lot of height and they can be knackering. The way they rear up out of the plain gives amazing views and a real sense of elevation.Shropshire hills around Church Stretton are worth a visit, or indeed several visits. The eastern ridge line formed by The Lawley and Caer Carradoc are really, really similar to the Malverns ... ridiculously so, in fact. The western side, the Long Mynd is completely different, with valleys ("batches") leading up onto a high moorland plain. Huge variety in a tiny area. Stiperstones just to the west are really worth a visit too. They're a bit like a mini Dartmoor but with quartzite crags and outcrops along the ridge.
Yes amazing definitely going back with a tent spend a few days. Just away from those massive tourist groups that take over everything. The Malverns will not beat me lol

I was very glad to have phone signal up top which in Snowdonia can be fairly rare! I'd have never known otherwise. I won't post photos as we've all seen way too many northern lights photos recently, but it was an amazing experience and has saved me from needing to gamble money on a northern lights trip!

We did Helvellyn yesterday and got exactly the same view! Only people we saw were 2 fell runners, and one very wet American couple in trainers and tracksuits. Quite enjoyed the peace and quiet and some of the waterfalls were awesome due to the heavy rain.
Went up Scafell Pike last Saturday and it was the opposite, there were thousands of people up there. Weather was amazing but the day itself not very enjoyable due to the crowds.
One of my favourite trips on Helvellyn was a clear winter's day with a reasonable covering of snow, deep blue skies. Views all the way down to Blackpool Tower. Then, all of a sudden, a trio of C130 Hercules appear and pass at eye level through the valley and meander south with the pilots waving at us. Hard to beat.

They closed the road to Wasdale Head today, it was that busy,Only people we saw were 2 fell runners, and one very wet American couple in trainers and tracksuits. Quite enjoyed the peace and quiet and some of the waterfalls were awesome due to the heavy rain.

I love Helvellyn, I walked it everyday November 2020 as was off work, amazing hill, so many ways up.
I used to go to the lakes a lot pre COVID, but since then I've been trying to go and visit alternative places in Wales, the Peaks and Scotland with only the occasional day hike when I would drive over. Has the place exploded with more people on the hills more recently? I know some of the routes have been busy for many years and I've seen some sights trying to navigate them with poor choice of kit in changeable conditions.
ive been trying to make new friends for hiking but didn't realise how tough it is. Joined this group after being recommended, saw a post saying someone, a guy, local looking for a walking pal, thought sounds good to me, fancy a walk local. A mod , with no hello basically says should organise an event etc. i just said it was casual, but that goes against the rules and safety first etc.
FFS i just left the group. But it does feel like they think everyone is a bad person, crazy really. the place i thought of going is very public as well not like a mountain in the middle of nowhere.

Doing some running up hills to burn off the paella. I say running, but razor sharp limestone is the hardest surface I’ve ever moved about on.
The mountain goats are cute too.
